We were given an all-inclusive price of $1022.50 + taxes for a grand total of $1253.50 per person leaving from Toronto to Cuba on May 1st and returning on May 8, 2010. We are staying at the Iberostar Laguna Azul.

Once a person puts down their $200 deposit, their rate is secured. We put down the initial deposit of $2000 ($200 each for 10 people) to secure our group rate. Once a person puts down their deposit, the rate will not change. In our case, people who are not putting down deposits right now (some waiting a few months) will be subject to any price changes made.

We have our trip booked, wedding date secured with the resort and we have also just received tentative flight times.

We used Breakaway Travel in Oshawa, Ontario.

WOW those are amazing prices!! I am having SUCH issues with my travel agent right now, maybe I will give them a call this week. Thanks for the info!!!

We also put down a $2000 deposit to hold 10 spots. Our rate for Tryp Peninsula Varadero Jan 10-17 2010 is $1488 taxes included for all inclusive. We found that after dealing with a ton of travel agents this was our best quote for that time of year, considering its prime time.

As PaulsGirl said once our guest put in their 200 deposit the rates are secure and will not change, except for those booking later. We were told to have our bookings in by June 30th which is coming fast!! Also once people pay their deposit the amount goes towards our trip (from the 2000 we paid to hold).

Hi off topic here but wondering how you decided upon the Ibero Laguna Azul? It's one of my options for price but can't find much info/pictures on it. Thanks!

Hi,

I'm in Ottawa. Travel agents have told me they expect packages for next spring/summer to be finalized by late July/early August.

It's driving me crazy as I'd love to be able to settle on a place once and for all & book! Of course, I'm totally risk-averse by nature and a compulsive planner.

Time to relax....

:)

Since we're pretty easy going, we just sort of jumped in. It's opening late this month/early July so there isn't a whole ton of information on it yet, however it is now on the Iberostar website. We chose it basically on the description available, and on the brand name. Iberostars are fantastic hotels and have a great reputation. The price was also a major factor for us. The wedding package was also a good deal.

Once this hotel opens, its likely that the price will go up and be comparative to the Iberostar Varadero. We chose to go with the brand new resort since it will be clean and has almost a whole year to work out the kinks.

Pretty much just got a good feeling from the description, the brand, it being a brand new 5 star and just went with our gut reaction to book it :)

  • 2 weeks later...

My future DIL and her mother are using Sear's Travel (Fairview/Montreal) price in January is pretty good for the group rate $1355 pp less for kids and they'll let you do 3 per room. Sear's is all over Canada so shouldn't be a problem. They'll usually price match so search around first. Also good is that we have people coming from different destination and they'll be part of the group rate, so at 21 ppl one goes free or the monetary equivalent is available to the couple to use however they want.

PaulsGirl, do you have the iberostar wedding package info? I'm having a hard time finding it on the website or getting in contact with anyone. We're not heading down until Dec 2010, but I'd like to get my STD cards out soon & I'm having a big debate between the Iberostars in Varadero or the Sol/Melia resorts.... hoping the wedding packages might be the swinging vote

I definitely have it on my computer at home. Can you send me your email in a private message and then I can forward you the documents tonight?

The wedding package (I thought) for the Laguna Azul was an amazing deal. It was $700 CUC (so about $1000 Canadian) and included quite a lot. We are then paying extra to rent the private poolside reception for a few hours (at $150 per hour). There were a lot of options so I will dig up what I can for you :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
