VENT: Step mom says, "They might not make it"

Recommended Posts

I talked to my step-mom (or dad's partner) today... I reminded her about the deposit that's due next Thursday. She basically told me that they might not make it...

WTF?!?!?! MY DAD?!?! censored.gif

So I called my dad, and although he was upset about it, he at least said that they'd discuss it (with my s/m) and get back to me by the end of the weekend. I suspect she won't come; fine - he's not giving me away.

I also talked to my younger sister; she wasn't surprised. Initially I was bawling about it, but I got to thinking... If my wedding is not important to my dad, enough to try and find a way to make it, then so be it.

I'm going to be very pessimistic until Sunday night....

I think it was, because she was awfully quick to make that assertion in a 3 minute phone call.

I also think she does not realize how important it is to him or me. Its not like we just got engaged two days ago and announced our wedding would be in PV yesterday. They've known about this for a while, and yet they managed to buy a house (albeit a manufactured home).

aww im so sorry sad.gif I hope your Dad makes the decision to go to your wedding!! I have huge issues with my dad and I say what you were saying is so true, if your dad cant find a way to get to your wedding then that is his problem! It is sad though that weddings bring out peoples true colours sad.gif I hope this works out for the best :)

Have you told your Dad how much it will hurt you if he isnt there?? like I mean have you have a heart to heart with him? It may help

I'm going to wait and see what resolution they come up with, if anything. IMO - they're adults. They should be able to figure something out that works for them, if its important enough.

If they say no, then I'm going to have a heart-to-heart with him and drag my sister along to referee (lol - she doesn't know that yet)

Ya definately wait and see what they say. Good idea on bringing your sister if you have a heart-to-heart with you dad. I know my stepmom is such a shit disturber who loves to cause trouble between me and my dad and sometimes if I can seperate him from her I can get through to him and he will change his mind on things. So I hope that if it comes to that, that he will see your side of this all!

my FI father and step mom arent coming to our wedding... all though it has caused a few fights here and there between FI and I..... things have been sorted out and FI flat out told his dad that he will be the one to regret the decision.. not us.. because we are still going to have the most amazing day ever.. with or without them...

i hope it gets resolved.. but know that this is YOUR wedding not theirs so if they arent there that is their LOSS not urs!

HUGS

Give it some time. I know it hurts and Smom's aren't always seeing the importance of it for you and your dad.

Talk to him by himself, it will all work out. My dad said no at first too and in the end he walked me down the aisle and can now be a spokesperson for Puerto Vallarta!

I totally feel you on this one! I was told the same thing by my dad..."don't know if we'll be able to make it..." and I know that my stepmother was the major contributing factor to that comment b/c my dad isn't the type to give up a once in a lifetime opportunity like his daughters wedding. Ultimately, they ended up booking last minute and staying at a different hotel, but made it to my wedding.

Hopefully they make the right decision, even if your dad goes on his own...goodluck - hugs!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
