What to do with the dress after the wedding?

I think I'll be going the traditional route and have it preserved. I voted that way, but I doubt any future daughter of mine would want to wear it (rightfully, she would want to find her own "perfect" dress).

 

I can just remember being a little girl and having my Mom pull her dress out from time to time to show my sister and I -- those memories were priceless to me, and they wouldn't have happened if hadn't kept her dress.

That is a very sweet family tradition! I wish I knew what my grandmother did with her dress...

My experience with my mom's dress was after I got engaged, we decided to is that it came from her first marriage (to my father) and when she pulled it out of the chest, the lace was all yellowed and crispy plus she was about 20lbs lighter than me when she was married so it didn;t do up...and it had long-sleeves so basically it was kind of a joke to be honest.

I mentioned it to DH last night and he was like " what do you mean you want to sell it...don't you want to keep it for our daughter to see?"...he was so sentimental (totally unlike him) that I think I'm leaning towards that now....

My dress will hopefully be changed into a christening gown shortly. I have taken my dress to 3 different seamstresses for quotes and ideas on how they would do this. All quotes were different ranging from $250. to $350. WHOLLY SNIKES!!! My dress has tons of beading for where they would need to cut and get the larger pieces. My only reasoning for not getting it done yet is that all the work on my dress is flowers and in light blue. What if we end up with another boy?? I know thats stilly... but Jay wasn't keen on the idea after he saw the seamstresses patterns laid on my dress... the whole thing would be a chiffon and blue flower gown. Do ya think a bit too girly?? KWIM....

I really enjoyed reading everyone's different opinions on this topic. I love the simplicity of my beachy chiffon dress, and while I don't plan on selling it, I think I'm going to redesign it into a nice cocktail dress. I luckily got two wears out of it as a wedding dress (we had an AHR about 3 weeks ago), so I feel like I could still get more use out of it.

 

My MIL also suggested that I use the remnants to make a christening gown for future children.

After a year and a half it is still hanging in the closet...not dry cleaned! I can't justify paying $150+ to have it dry cleaned professionally so I think I will just put it in the dryer with some dryell (that "at home" dry cleaning stuff) and see how it goes! I think I'm going to go the cocktail dress & christening gown route. Especially since my mom bought my dress it would be special to have her grandchild christened in it as well...and I am her only child & therefore, it will be her only grandchild!

Well over 2 years later, it's sitting in my closet crumpled up ina ball still un-drycleaned. I never intended to sell it, even though that's how I justified spending so much money on it originally. I always wanted to keep it for something, but once the wedding was over, I was so fed up with all wedding things that I shoved it in a closet and haven't looked at it since! Perhaps it's time to have a wedding dress party with my friends....

Love this idea! Maybe I can find something similar in Toronto. Haven't had the wedding yet, but can't see myself wanting to keep in hanging in the closet.

      Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010.       Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners.
