Interesting website- Expedia News

Wow this is pretty scary. I will admit I have used various sites expedia, Orbitz and tavelocity for booking flights and hotel stays and I have never had a problem, but I have heard some horror stories from people who needed to make changes to their flights or ended up with bad hotels. I think the rule of thumb with these sites is if you're going to stay somewhere make sure it's a chain hotel, because they have a standard of quality they have to uphold.

Me too. I have booked over 50 trips for almost 10 years and never had a problem. Hotels I use Hotels.ca though and never had a problem with them either. I cancelled one of my trips the same day Katrina hit in Florida and I got a full refund.

I'm also sure people that travel a lot tend to have better "luck" because they know what they're doing and have a better sense of how travel works, but people that do not travel much may have a difficult time with online bookings.
Well said!

If everything goes right, then it's fine. After all you've chosen your hotel, flight, etc and as long as those plans don't change everything goes as it should. The problem is when there is some sort of issue or special circumstance: expedia's customer service is just non-existant so you can really end up being screwed. They don't stand behind anything they advertise on their website and don't care about their customers - IMO. I personally always think that the mark of a good company isn't necessarily that everything goes fine, but it's how they deal with it when things get screwed up. By this definition, expedia is not a good company in my books! So it's not to say that using expedia is a bad idea, but you do run the risk of being very angry should something go wrong because expedia will not do much to help you.

Maybe Expedia.ca (I am from Canada) CSRs are nicer/better than Expedia.com CSRs because I have had problems that were resolved each time. Even with little problems like getting my seats together with whoever I am traveling with when the website didn't have that option, Expedia.ca would take care of it or at least show me in the right direction to resolve that issue.

Anyway if anyone can recommend other companies please do so. I am always open to suggestions.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
