Majestic Wedding Disaster!

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I know that everyone is a huge fan of the Majestic as it is a beautiful resort and the setting is just amazing but I feel I should let everyone know about the bad experience that I had with them just as a warning and to caution everyone to double and triple check all of their plans! I apologize if it is quite long.

I was due to get married at the Majestic next March 2010. I had been emailing back and forth with Maritee for quite some time and the wedding planner I hired in the US was able to confirm my date and time of wedding with the Majestic the first week in February. I had email confirmations from Maritee and was excited to be booked!

This March 2009, my fiancé and I went on vacation at the Majestic and were very excited that we had the opportunity to meet with Maritee (and Phil and Michael Steingard!!) while we were down there. Maritee confirmed in person that our wedding would take place at 5:00 on March 27 2010 at the Majestic Elegance. Martiee took us around the Elegance and we saw all the options. We even saw a few weddings while we were down there and were able to get lots of ideas.

After our vacation I was excited to get in touch with Maritee again and start booking my dinner and reception locations. On the Monday I returned from vacation I was on the Majestic Brides facebook group and posted a new topic March2010 brides. Another bride (who I will not name as this was most certainly not her fault) who I had been speaking with a few months before wrote in the group that she was excited she had booked her date and I was horrified to learn that it was on the same day AND TIME as the time that I had confirmed two month earlier. I immediately emailed my local wedding planner and Maritee to see what the deal was although I was convinced that they had gotten her time wrong as I had communicated with this bride a few months earlier and I had facebook messages between me and her proving that I had booked the date first. As I said I was able to confirm my date and time with Maritee the first week in February and the facebook conversations I had with the other bride were from the third week in February and she spoke to me about being nervous and wanting to confirm her date already.

This of course gave me even more reason to believe that my date and time was secure. This was NOT the case!! Much later that day, after agonizing for hours about what was going on, Maritee finally got back to me and very simply said “sorry but you are not confirmed for 5:00 but for 3:00”. We are flying my rabbi down for the wedding and he WILL NOT do a wedding at 3:00 on a Saturday so there was no way I had confirmed a 3:00 time slot, I also had emails from her confirming the 5:00 time slot! I wrote her back and forwarded her not only her confirmation emails to me but also the facebook conversations I had with the other bride proving that I had reserved the time slot first! Maritee then came back to us, even with the facebook messages as proof, and said that she was sorry but the other bride was in contact with Sandra and was booking the very same date and time as me at the very same date and time that I was booking it which was obviously not true per all the facebook messages.

To this day I do not know what happened but I am assuming Maritee forgot to write my name in the book and was trying to cover up her mistake. But Maritee did not apologize and she would not budge, she just kept saying to my local wedding planner “are you calling me a liar” and frankly yes, we were calling her a liar! For a week my local wedding planner attempted to speak with Maritee, Sandra and the other managers at the Majestic but no one would return her calls. This is someone’s wedding for petes sake, the least they could have done was give us the courtesy of a call back, apologize, and work with us to figure out how to fix their mistake. But alas this did not happen.

So although I had spent months researching the Majestic and even went there and picked out everything I wanted for the wedding I needed to find another hotel.

I am now a Paradisus Palma Real bride and very proud to be one!!!

While I still think the Majestic is a beautiful resort I will never think of it the same and will probably never stay there again due to the agony that they caused me and their complete disregard of kindness and flexibility over my situation.

While this may be a rare occurrence it did happen to me and as all you other brides can imagine it caused much stress over the last few weeks as I needed to find a new hotel that had the date and time I wanted and I needed to start over with all my research.

I don’t want to offend any bride who had a wonderful wedding experience at the Majestic but for all those future brides, BE CAREFUL!! Make sure you follow up and have multiple confirmations unless you don't care if your date is suddenly no longer available!!! And of course in my opinion, don’t use Maritee as your wedding planner.

Good Luck and Congrats to all the future brides!!!!!!!

I'm sorry to hear that. I was really considering using them, I already booked my date and time (but I still keep looking). My first choice was the Paradisus Palma Real and I still may go there, it's gorgeous. But when I saw the MC I really liked the gazebo and prices. But honestly, one thing that really bothers me about the MC is that they don't take a deposit. I feel like anything could happen because it doesn't feel concrete to me. It's like okay, we wrote your name down. It just doesn't feel good enough to me. And I'm afraid that what happened to you could happen to me, as well. Thanks for the warning.

Looking back I also think it is absurd they do not take a deposit. PPR takes a $200 deposit and of course after what happened at the MC I was more than happy to pay that and it makes sense that they have you pay that! PPR also only does one wedding a day while the Majestic does up to 3 so I am extra confident that this will not happen again!!
The MC is less expensive than the PPR so that is a plus and the Gazebo is beautiful. Good luck, let me know if you decide to switch to the PPR and have any questions.

Thank you! I am glad some brides understand!
I posted this review on the MC facebook group and got slightly attacked by someone who thought I was overreacting!!

Honestly, I don't think I'm going to the DR after all. I know the flights aren't out yet for July 2010, but I just wanted to get a feel for the flights to the Dominican Republic. They are all so long, and I didn't see any nonstops. Some flights took 28 hours, with the layover! Some took like 7 hours, which is okay but I am looking at other places with better flights. I haven't totally eliminated the DR but flights to Mexico are so much better.

lindsay, i can't believe what a horrible mix up that was! think about this... what a coincidence that you've been talking to this girl who got confirmed on your date so you were aware of the problem! what if you had gotten closer to the date, had guests book, etc. only to find out that they had you for the wrong time!

good luck planning for your big day at paradisus!! i'm sure it will be a relief knowing that all the details will be taken care of there without worry!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
