Non-Legal Marriages-when are you making it legal?

Recommended Posts

We're planning on doing it soon even though we're getting married next feb. We plan on keeping it hush hush. The reason we're doing it early is so that we can buy a house together as a married couple. Another perk is that you get a few extra $$ from your paycheck as a married person - we plan to use this for our honeymoon - kinda silly but practical.

We Ijust got back from our symbolic ceremony which was fabulous at Secrets Maroma. I will post pics, etc. later this month. Our parents were a little upset when they saw pics, so our legal ceremony on May 1 will be another beach ceremony at the boardwalk in Point Pleasant, NJ by the mayor of Manasquan who loves to marry people. Parents and sibblings will be there then dinner at a local restaurant. So.....in the end we are having the wedding we should have had from the start. However, our Mexico wedding will always be our special one.

We were legally married a couple of days before we went to Mexico. No witnesses were required and we didn't tell anyone. We just figured it was easier for us to handle the legal stuff here in the US and it was more cost effective.

We are actually having a dinner with our parents and grandparents and best man (who's baby is due a few wks. before the wedding.) Since the brother and grandparents aren't coming to Mexico we are going to get "married" at the restaurant and with them as witnesses and give gifts so we don't have to take them to Mexico....and its just one more fun event to look forward to!

We are having our legal ceremony at our new house (we have a cute backyard) on May 30th. We are inviting our parents and grandparents to attend since our grandparents can't make it to the DW. It won't be anything exciting, but we wanted something special for our grandparents to participate in. Our DW will be our "real" wedding with special vows, dress, decorations, etc... on June 20.

Congratulations LesleyAnne!
I'm a future SMB bride and can't wait to see your pics and hear your story. We have a similar plan, intimate symbolic ceremony at Secrets with the legal reception at home later.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
