Destination Wedding Newbie...Please help!

Hi, my name is Mandy. I'm getting married December 1, 2009 in Jamaica. Anyone with any helpful information on how to properly plan a destination wedding, please let me know. I'm having a very hard time making plans that would work for almost everyone I am inviting. People seem to tell me that everything I want to do, doesn't work for them. Shouldn't this day be about me?

Congratulations! You will find a lot of useful information on this forum!

Unfortunately, it is difficult to make everyone happy when planning a destination wedding. A number of my family and friends are not happy that I'm having a destination wedding, and are not/cannot come. As you explore BDW you will see a number of threads in the venting section that discuss this issue. You have to do what will make you happy and, maybe, those who are most important to you to be there. Best of luck!

Congrats and welcome, Mandy!

As others have mentioned, you shouldn't try to please everybody. (It's really impossible to do so, and will only cause you unneeded/unwanted stress). This is your big day, and you should plan it in a way that makes you and your fiance happy. You want to be able to look back on it after it's over and be happy and at peace that it was a very memorable and fun time for you both as you started your new life together.

Best wishes,

Tod

Congratulations Mandy! I know how hard it is to resist the temptation to try to please your friends, family and guests. However, the only people who really have to be happy are you and your future husband. You only get one day to be the star of your own show-your wedding day. This is the day that all eyes are on you. It should be your decision how, when and where your guests get the privilege to see you exchange vows with your love. Good luck and remember to stay true to yourself.

Mandy

I say shop around for the best prices and they will send you different packages with pictures and honestly you should go with the one that fits you budget as well as your tast because if you are happy then all of the people who really really really care about you will also be happy. Follow your gut instinct and have fun with it.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
