Never been to Jamaica--getting married there

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have been researching destinations for months now, and just found this forum. I would like some recommendations for a Jamaica wedding (Mar. 2010) which I hope to be:

-classy

-garden wedding (preferably no gazebo, modern building structures in pics (historic building/ruins ok)

-reasonable cost ($3000-4000 all inclusive for stay)

-singles welcome (I have 4+ singles going)

-excursions (ziplining through rainforest, historic sites, dolphin swims, etc.)

-decent beach to relax

-atmosphere for all ages (ages 20-80)

I am familiar with most of the resorts via their websites, but have never been to Jamaica. Please make some recommendations based on the info above.

Thanks so much!!

Hi! Welcome to the forum,

One place you may want to consider is the Grand Palladium in Lucea. I was there this Feb and it will fit all your requirements. It was affordable, and fun for all ages. I am 25, and my fiance, sister & husband (30's), Mom, Aunt & Uncle(60's) all had a great time. It is not to far from Montego Bay so there is plenty to do, but you dont hear airport noise. The zipline was awesome, and it is a 3hr drive to Ocho Rios for Dunn's River and Dolphin swimming.

Plus, the rooms were really great! We were in bldg 14, 1st floor. We opened our patio door, and literally stepped down right in front of the ocean. All in all, this was fun for all ages. Hope this helps :)

Hi!

Honestly, the best thing for you to do is browse the Jamaica Sub-forum and the wedding reviews.

You will be able to read first hand accounts of trips and see pictures.

It might be helpful for you to make a spreadsheet or keep some sort of list of pros and cons of each property as you do your research. There are so many resorts it can get overwhelming. This is the one I used:

Also, be aware that the excursions you mentioned are not included in the price of your resort and may not be near. For example the dolphin excurision is closer to Ocho Rios than Negril. It was pretty expensive ($200 per person) and would have been a 4 hour round trip for us, so it really wasn't a feasible option.

you really do not seem to have a solid list of requirements..I would suggest prioritizing your absolutes and then nice to haves and then based on your resort listings, narrow down your choices based on amenities and services. There is a ton of info here for you. Best of luck planning.

What I was going to suggest has already been suggested, thanks girlies!

Please utilize the search function for loads and loads of information that brides have posted. But also, use your TA to assist you in your decision. They will be most knowledgable about comparing resorts, while in here, you will only here the brides opinion about the place that she chose with no comparison.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
