Is Your Wedding Trip Also Your Honeymoon?

We stayed at the same resort for 8 days 7 nights for our wedding/honeymoon to maximize our time with friends and family. It was really nice to have time to ourselves and also meet up with loved ones. None of our family is nearby and two thirds of our guests live in other countries/cities.

We are getting married at Dreams Riviera Cancun.... and then going to honeymoon (minimoon) at Secrets Maroma Beach. We will be in Mexico for 11 days total (our guests will be with us for the first half at Dreams) -- then we will go to Secrets by ourselves for the last half :)

I know this thread is crazy-old, but I wanted to chime in and post what we're doing, and see if anyone else had anything new to add (for those who are trying to decide)!

Anyway, John and I will be at Sandals Grande Ocho Rios in Ocho Rios, Jamaica with our guests from May 11 - May 15 (our wedding is on 5/14), and then the day after we get married, some guests are staying on, some are going home, and WE are going to a different Sandals Resort for a 3-day mini-moon just the two of us.

We'll be at Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay from May 15 - 18 for a little R & R after the big event, and it will probably the first time of the week we can actually have a drink and chill on a chaise lounge on the beach and just enjoy spending time with each other -- can't wait!

We are staying at the same resort (Aventura Spa Palace) and will be there for 10 nights. We arrive on Tuesday 6/22 and leave on 7/2... most of the people will leave on Sunday or Monday so we will still have time to ourselves. I think my FI mom and step dad plan to leave on Tuesday but that is okay with me.

Even when we were in Cozumel this past September we hung out with other couples (vacation is funnier if you have people to hang out with... IMO)

We are staying 2 weeks at Azul Sensatori. Most of our guests are only 1 week but our families are staying 2. We didn't want to leave in case we didn't like the second resort, and service is much better the longer you stay.

Our families have been warned that this is also our honeymoon and we would like some "alone" time as well. They said they agreed.......we'll see LOL

We are getting married on Maui and staying for a day after then heading to Kauai for 5 days. Most of our family is staying on Maui for a week after the wedding. We didn't want to feel obligated to hang out with people so we decided to go to another island. Plus we have been to Maui a few times and wanted to go to another island!

I can only take a one week vacation because I'm a teacher and that is all I am allowed to take for my own wedding. We don't have the money to take another vacation a few months later, so the one week of our wedding will also be our honeymoon. I'm pretty sure people would be nice enough to leave us alone if we asked them too, but I know his daughter wouldn't like that very much. Plus, my FI is the party type so I'll know he'll want to be out having drinks with friends and dancing at the disco most nights. All I'm asking him (and everyone else) is to give us the morning/afternoon the day after the wedding all to ourselves.

Also, my FI's parents have a timeshare and offered us to use it at as our wedding gift. But I kinda feel like it's a poisoned gift : we'd still have to pay for the airfare, food, rental car, and activities at the place we decided to go. I'm pretty sure this would become more expensive than just booking an AI last minute during low season...

Hi Jess,

Remember me, I was at the Dreams when you got married. We are getting married there this coming Nov. We are right now wondering about practical honeymoon options. We were first thinking of jumping on a cruise from teh marina but we found out that it is only a port and not an embarkment location. We are now thinking of going to anohter resort in the area. Which one did you go to? and how did it compare to Dreams ? I think we were spoiled with the no wrist bands, no rezos, a la carte dining that others seem not to have. We don't want to end up downgrading for our honeymoon.

Thanks,

Jenn

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
