First Dance: I'm Yours... what style?

Recommended Posts

We are doing our first dance to Jason Mraz "I'm Yours" and trying to figure out what style to dance to. We signed up for dance classes, but the teacher is horrible... I saw one post that someone danced Foxtrot to it. I tried to find videos on YouTube to see any examples, but couldn't find any to this song that were good.

Any suggestions? Thank you!

How exciting, this is our first dance song too! smile72.gif We've gone through 2 sessions of personal dance classes, with a third tomorrow night, and we are doing a mixture of dances in it, but most of it is going to be a waltz. I love the waltz and with the slower tempo of this song, it just looks beautiful!! I'm SUPER nervous though b/c our choreographer also has us doing turns and even a lift...thats right, where FI LIFTS ME IN THE AIR AND does a full turn and a half...haha wish us luck! :)

The thing is that this song is extremely long - 4 minutes!! So we are going to be cutting out about 45 seconds to a minute of it so it won't feel like it lasts forever. We still have about half of it left to learn so I will update y'all with what else we are doing as we go!

I would go to Dance Forums and ask for advice. I had never posted there before and asked for first dance help, and everyone was super helpful! They listened to songs for me and told me exactly what styles would work :)

My fiance and I are doing a waltz to Come Away With Me by Norah Jones, and although I know someone said she's doing a waltz to your song, I don't see how it could work. It's not in 3/4 time, and it's too fast, but I guess with choreography you can do almost anything. Some of the other suggestions will probably fit perfectly though!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
