Are you religious?

Yeah, I go to church with Matt's family occasionally, but I don't enjoy it. I also feel like a fraud! I never thought of it like that, but that's a great way to put it. And I don't go to communion. For some reason, that would make me feel like a sinner. I guess some part of it can't be worn off! I remember in grade school, we had to go to confession before we were allowed to go to communion, so I just would never go to communion these days.

I do consider myself religious. I definitely am trying to get to church more, but am not doing a good job at it.

 

I was raised Catholic, went to Catholic school, etc. I had a huge problem not being able to get married in the Catholic church cause my DH had already been married in the church. Needless to say it pissed me off, but rules are rules.

 

I love the tradition of the Catholic church, but I wish they would loosen up a bit. I believe that people are born gay, that they have a right to marry, that priest have a right to get married, abortion is a freedom of choice and I used birth control.

 

I am a liberal Catholic, but I definitley want to raise my children in the faith. I believe it gave me a good foundation regarding morals and principles. I guess they call me a cafeteria Catholic, I pick and choose what I want. At the end of the night, I still pray every day and I think about God all the time.

I really liked it too. It got a little crazy towards the end because Bill Maher was on his high Bill Mahar horse . One of my favorite scenes was with the Muslim Cleric. He was talking about his religion and traditions when his cell phone rang to interrupt the interview and his ring tone was Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir"!

I feel the same as most of you ladies. I am catholic, went to catholic elementary and high school. My immediate family was never big on going to church. We used to just to the Christmas and Easter thing. Eventually we stopped that.... I always felt bad about how packed the church would be on those days and I told my mom that we were turning into people that just went out of guilt and a feeling of obligation. If I were a regular church go-er I would probably be annoyed with people like us lol.

 

I believe that its what you do everyday that defines who you are as a person, not your religion. Don't get me wrong, I believe in God, but like many of you said I think the Bible was created as a "guideline" as I call it and I sometimes feel that the Catholic religion if followed by the book can be a bit hypocritical.

 

Having said all of that, I still respect everyone for their own beliefs! What kind of world would this be if WE ALL believed the exact same thing Pretty boring IMO.

 

Ohhh... I just thought of a mean prank that I pulled on FI in my last Church visit. I should go post it under the confessions thread!

I voted more spiritual than religious. I believe in some things and totally disagree with others. I could never be a church goer because I believe woman should be able to have abortions, I believe in gay marriage and their right to adopt, etc... so that pretty much leaves me unable to attend church. I know that United Church is much more open and accepting of these things, my MIL goes to United Church every Sunday and for all holiday's, etc.. and they seem much "cooler" there than at most churches, in fact her minister drafted our sand ceremony for us and MIL added some stuff to it, so I thought that was pretty cool.

 

But I will not be a person who attends church on a regular basis and neither will Ella or any of my children, unless it is something they choose to do on their own, then I will totally be accepting of that choice and bring them to the church of their choice.

oh mo thats horrible! so then, how does that work? do you have to confess that you took communion even when it was sort of forced upon you? i mean clearly it was a misunderstanding, but how do you deal with that? poor girl, i would have been mortified too!
