Are you still doing excursions given the current state in Mexico?

Recommended Posts

My focus of this discussion is how many of you are still taking excursions and traveling off the resort given the temperature of the Mexican situation with the Drug Cartel and heightened concerns for safety in Mexico.

We had planned to have an excursion day to either Tulum and Xel-Ha (both are Great!), but I am not sure people will want to leave the resort with all the Road Check points I have read about in past posts.

Is the current situation in Mexico keeping you from doing Excursions, or are you still planning those off site fun outings for your guests? FI and I have already done those on past adventures and also Chichen Itza (so we are fine with skipping), but most of our guests have not had the chance to do these great activites. I know there was some talk of swimming with the Dolphins etc.from some guests. Should we still proceed with these outings? I realize it is pretty safe in this area. But just not sure it is a good idea.

Let's chat! What are you all doing?

****P.S. So I did a search for this specific topic, I found Excursions separate and also Safety in Mexico separate, but nothing on whether you are still planning those Excursions in this present time. Both are great search topics, but I felt this was a timely issue not addressed in past posts. I didn't see a place for this topic so I apologize if this is the wrong place.

A friend of ours just got back from Cancun last week and had no problems with excursions. There were check points on the road but they weren't too bad. I think we are going to do guided excursions instead of going off on our own like we had originally planned. I would let your guests decide.

I personally think that this topic really goes along w/ the safety in mexico. any of the girls who said it would be safe in that thread are probably going to say the same thing here that they still have intentions of doing their excursions. I have yet to hear of someone cancelling them. I think that you should just follow the same safety measures you would on vacation (just like the safety thread goes into detail about)

Yeah, that is how we are feeling too. I think I was more wondering if anyone had taken excursions lately and how did that go. FI and I had a talk and he said let's do it! We had so much fun at Xhel-Ha last time we are going back. It was amazing to swim with all the Sting Rays and 3 ft long fish! Life is too short to let fear rule. I never have before and not going to now! smile29.gif

Thanks!

Hi!

I think that the american media are doing a huge thing of a very isolated problem.

Most of the drug war is happening in Ciudad Juarez , wich is very close to the US border.

The Riviera Maya and other tourist locations are not affected at all.I've been living in Mexico for 6 years, and i never had any problems, i actually feel more insecure in the US these days...Don't cancel the excursions, in my opinion, Tulum and Chichen Itza are amazing ruins, i got married in Tulum last year, did all of these with my family and friends, everybody loved those archeological sites.

Even in the case of military check points, know that the mexican military are young and very courteous people, never had a problem travelling all over mexico for years...

I hope this will help!

sorry but i understand you would like to know separately about excursions, but this really is a subject that has been coverered extensively. as jac mentioned above, anyone that said it is safe to vacation in the other threads would have the same things to say about excursions while on vacation. and those that dont think it is safe to vacation there should probably not only not do excursions but should probably not bother getting married there too.

sorry if that was harsh but im just so sick and tired of this subject. as jeremy so correctly stated above, the trouble is NOT in or around resort towns. it is in places like juarez, tijuana, mexico city. the safety checkpoints are not things to be worried about, they are things to help keep you safe.

i am going to close this thread.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
