Air Miles question????

I am going to Newfoundland for a long weekend & am trying to decide if I should use airmiles or just pay for the flight.

Here is the breakdown...

We have over 1600 airmiles accumulated right now.

It will cost $158.33 plus 1080 airmiles...

Or I can just pay the airfare which is only $356.

I've never booked a flight with airmiles, or used them in anyway...

So my question....is it worth using up the airmiles for a flight thats so cheap anyway??

THANKS!!!

i would definately save your airmiles and just pay the full airfare...my FI and I are trying so hard to save up our airmiles because you can get really good things with it if you try be patient (which can be hard) and let the points build...some of the smaller rewards just dont seem worth it to me...

sorry for my babble lol I just think to keep your airmiles and save them for something better :)

Thanks!! We'll probably still use them for a flight somewhere...I'm just thinking we can save more money by using them elsewhere! (ie, like using 1500 airmiles & $200 to fly to AB which would save $300 - these are just numbers I pulled out of my smile117.gif not the actual numbers!) I'm wondering if that is the case though?? Would I actually save more money on a more expensive flight??

hmm im not sure to be honest how it goes for what is the best idea on how to use them for flights...but im sure it depends on the airline and what they think is a "fair" trade...I think its too many airmiles sometimes for only a small discount off flights...but ya if you are sold on using it for a flight i would use it for a more expensive flight that maybe you wouldnt normally spend the money on, KWIM?

if you arent sold completely on only using your airmiles for flights though, you can get lots better things with them like appliances or ipods...more material things that you can use over and over

I read you already booked wo using the airlines miles I think that is good we are going to Ireland and have been saving miles for the trip and our TA said that the airfare is so cheap now she would wait to hold them. I guess we will have to go somewhere else hehe!!

It really depends on what airline they are for, each has different amounts for what, etc. I say to save them. Really if you want to save money, you need to save the miles. We never use miles on a short trip. We save miles for a big trip to take, or on long trips we use them to upgrade. Flying to Thailand, one flight 18 hours, another 15 hours, we definitely need upgraded on those!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
