Monogram Ettiquette

Recommended Posts

I was planning on putting our monogram on some things like personalized mugs, welcome kits, cd of music etc but then read somewhere that it's poor ettiquette to use the monogram until after you are married. Has anyone else considered this or did you just go ahead and use the monogram? Just curious....

Thanks!

It's traditionally considered improper etiquette to use a MARRIED monogram until after the ceremony. This is a rule of etiquette that is frequently broken in modern weddings, and as destination weddings are even more relaxed probably most of your guests wouldn't notice. However, there are lots of options to use a monogram without breaking that rule. Just use a monogram of just your first names or initials and don't include the last name or last initial. If you're using a really traditional monogram, you can use an ampersand in place of the center middle initial: j&s instead of jRs. Hope that helps...

Ettiquette-schmettiquette! I agree with Sarah (I ADORE your work, by the way, and plan to contact you about ordering a monogram after we officially book our date!) that maybe you should go the first-names only route to avoid any monogram controversy!

I think it is a great personal touch to OOT bags, travel mugs, t-shirts, whatever you like -- it will give your guests a keepsake to remember how much fun they had being there to share in the special moment with you and your FI!

Monogram away, I say!

If you are concerned about what is proper then stick to this rule of thumb, for items used pre-ceremony such as invitations, showers, engagement events or programs you should not mix in the future husbands last initial, just stick to first names or first initials only. Otherwise, for the reception items or thank you cards it is perfectly fine to use the new last initial. Best of luck to you...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
