Hello BDW noobies & oldies!

I've been engaged for 1 yr now and my fiance and I decided to get married at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya in Feb 2010. We are scheduled to fly dwn there April 13th to meet w/ a wedding planner and to assess the hotel.

HOWEVER, with all the hype re: the civil unrest in Mexico, my family and friends are making us have second thoughts. I literally had a blowout w/my Dad last night and I hated talking to my Dad with such a tone.

Thus, I've joined BDW simply to attain info re: destination weddings in Mexico and to get advice from similarly situated persons. I want to hit my parents with as much info as possible.

Excited to be here!

Hi Msbettybernier -

I'm getting married at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya in February of 2010 as well, and have been encountering the same problem. My response to people who are concerned is that I have no desire to put those I love in danger and that I've been assured my multiple sources that the Riviera Maya is safe. There are dangers whenever you travel to another country, and it's always wise to be cautious where ever you go. I've explained that Tijuana is very far away from the Riviera Maya, but there were some recent incidents in Cancun, so that argument didn't hold water for very long. The bottom line for us is that the Riu Palace Riviera Maya is where we want to get married. We're hoping that things calm down in the next few months so people can stop being so concerned. We might consider a change of location if the situations escalates though. Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
