I am thinking of doing my reception in the ballroom since their will be AC. Does anyone know of any vendors that may speak English for the Tiffany chairs? Also how far in advance did you guys start to confirm things like center pieces, decorations etc with your WC. I would like to do it now as I do not like doing things last minute.

Hi Nursejazz, congratulations on your upcoming wedding! How long does it usually take Yanna to get back to you when you email her?  How many people do you have booked for your wedding so far? (This can sometimes affect their response time if you don't have anyone booked yet - they tend to prioritize people using travel agents & people who have a good amount of guests booked in their room block already.)

In regards to the vendors with the Tiffany chairs - there is a post in this thread about a vendor who can provide them, but they only speak spanish.  I know they can be pricey at the resort but depending on the number of guests you have, you can usually get them to lower the price by a few dollars.  Also just something to think about - getting them from an outside vendor can be a bit of a pain since the resort is then NOT responsible if anything happens and they don't get there on time, etc., and its just an added thing you will have to deal with on your wedding day.

The ballroom is gorgeous, thats where we had our reception and it was perfect!

You should be able to get confirmations on things as you go, and they will re-confirm everything with you about a month or so before your actual wedding.  Just keep in mind that they do concentrate more on the brides whose weddings are closer since they have around 6-10 weddings a week and there are only 2 wedding coordinators.

Also, about the cakes - their cakes are very simple but they're done really nicely and are delicious.  If you bring your own decorations, they will do a fantastic job decorating the cake for you, also.  Their bakeries in the Dominican aren't like ours here in the States when it comes to luxury wedding cakes.  The demand just really isn't there for what we're used to having as options.  But like I said, theyre very pretty and soo good! I sent Jenny (who was my WC) a picture of a pretty simple cake (by US standards) and she said we could have them make a FAKE cake that looked like that for $350 and then pass out sheet cake for the guests, lol! Obviously, we didn't do that! And we were very happy with our cake from the resort!

Hi Nursejazz, congratulations! My wedding is roughly a month after you on Aug 29, 2014 :)

I have Yanna as my WC as well. She takes about average of 5 days to get back to me every time I have questions. Sometimes her response would even be the next day! How long does it take for her to reply you? I don't have any problem with her so far...I do think that the WCs are very very busy to make sure every girl gets her dream wedding!

I confirmed the venues and time for welcome party, ceremony, cocktail hour and reception with Yanna. I also sent in the questionnaire with details on gazebo decoration, bouquet, boutonniere, centerpiece..etc and she told me she is working on getting me quotes on those items. Finalized the people I am using from outside - photographer, DJ and pastor with her as well. She gave me a discount on the tiffany chairs. I agree with Jessica, I would not use outside vendor on this one because in order for the vendor to come in and set it up, there would be outside vendor fee of $150 applied, that fee can pay for 20 chairs itself. Unless the outside vendor really offers the chair very very cheap.

@@jessicalynneh Thanks for the info! It usually takes Yanna about 3-4 weeks to respond to my emails and it is really frustrating me. I only have about 10 ppl booked in my party. The wedding block, do they block certain rooms off for you? When I spoke with group reservations they gave me a group code that I use that people book under, do I have to request rooms be blocked? I think I will go ahead and try to negotiate a price for the chairs as I do not speak Spanish and I know that will be a headache. Did you outsource to a outside photographer, I think that I am just trying to figure out who to use. Yanna hasn't really confirmed much with me except for the wedding time, she is saying that the ballroom cannot be booked in advance, which is weird to me. Did you do a rehearsal dinner there or did you just make reservations at the restaurant? I am also trying to get my invitations together and I want to do the Passport invitations? DO you know anyone who has done them and has a template?

Thanks

@@flyingchild It looks like you have wayyyyy more done than me at this time. I have not sent Yanna back the wedding questionnaire and I am not sure if that's why she is not timely with responding to me and confirming things. At this time I am waiting to send my invites out to get a final head count so that I can send the questionnaire in. Who are you using for your photographer? How much did you end up paying for your tiffany chairs? Did you start your invitations? Who did you use for your DJ? I was thinking of outsourcing but I wasn't sure who to use or even where to start? Where is your reception being held? Thanks!

Hey ladies just an update jenny is out on vacation until the 9th and I also know that there are some weddings going on in the resort this month. So that why it might be taking longer than usual for Yanna to respond. Try putting urgent or important in the subject line that might get her to check out your email a little faster

@@Nursejazz It is ok to send it your questionnaire even if you do not have everything planned out yet. We can always send the WC updated docs as we fill in more info. That way she has plenty of time to get us price quotes and what not. I am using DJ Mannia as DJ & MC and HDC as photographer. So far I have been very impressed with their prompt responses. Also DJ Mannia is very generous to throw in free stuff for us :)

You're right about the ballroom, I had some struggles trying to come to terms with Yanna on the reception venue. Apparently the convention center (where the ballrooms are) is the only place they can have conventions or things along those lines so if there is a convention booked, they have to give out the ballrooms to them. I decided on the Seaside Grill after much thoughts...the ballroom might be a bit of a walk from the ceremony and cocktail venues for some guests and we like the Seaside interior. I will only decide on the chair type after I get the final head counts. My future SIL is actually a graphic designer and I am meeting with her this weekend to design the invitations! Instead of having boarding pass...etc travel themes, I am going with more of a classic invitation set. Since our color is blue, I want the stationery to be watercolor inspired with romantic hues.

When are you sending out your invitations? We are sending them out some time in Feb. We have 40 rooms blocked for the wedding and the drop of unbooked rooms will occur middle of Apr.

@@flyingchild Thanks so much for the info! Yanna got back with me finally and answered all my questions. Now I am tentatively booked for the ballroom with the SS Grille as the alternate. I am sending out my invites in 2 weeks. I didn't know that you could block out rooms, when I called the dreams number they said they didn't do it. I am going to ask the lady that I have been talking with in group bookings, is that how you got a room block? I am going to use HDC as my photographer as well. I wanted to use DJ Mannia but based on his prices they are the same as the resort DJ and I would have to pay the vendor fee for him along with the Photographer. So I am going to just stick with the resort DJ? How many people are you planning for? Did your menu switch to buffet?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
