VancouverBride,

Thank you for the information. I have decided to ask if I can push my ceremony back to 3pm like yours was. I am having my reception at the same place as you did. Did you only have your reception for the 3 hours or did you extend your time?

We paid for 3 hours of the reception but they have us the 4th hour DJ and resurant for free!!! I didn't expect people to dance as much because it was 25 people but in the end everyone danced and drank till the end! If it's in your budget I'd go for 4 hrs but if not just move to the dance club. You can also decide to add an extra hour of reception the night of the wedding based on how things are going for an extra cost per hour (I don't remember the exact amount sorry).

Correction--So I found an email from our wedding planner (we had our own plus DLR planner) about the DJ. We paid for 4 hrs-1 hr ceremony and 3 hrs reception DJ and speakers and mic. We didn't use the photography ($400 value) and a few other things in the wedding love package so we negotiated to get other items "free". "8) I negotiated the DJ service since we are not using all the items in the Wedding Love package. It would normally by $950 for the 4 hours, but they are doing $350 for all 4 hours. "

I've been reading this thread for the last few days and I must say it totally takes a lot of ease and stress off trying to plan a destination wedding from Oklahoma! We are having our wedding on June 14, 2013. We are having the ceremony in the gazebo, cocktail hour at the pier, and reception in the gardens. I'm just trying to work out all the minor details now like DJ vs taking an iPod and speakers, decorations, centerpieces, etc. Reading all these posts is making me so excited! Also, for previous brides, did y'all ship your decorations before you went to the Dominican or did you take them all with you?

Hi all!

I'm getting married at DLR May 11, 2013! We just came back from a visit at the resort and it was beautiful!

I had my hair and make-up trial done while I was there. My hair came out great but my make-up was not so great :(

Has anyone used or can any brides suggest a good  make-up artist in the DR, preferabley La Romana?

I want my make-up to look fantastic and stay on all night!

Thanks, really appreciate any help!

Hi,

I'm getting married April 20th, and although I haven't visited the hotel I read some reviews here that the makeup is not that great sometimes... so I have some dominicans friends and one got reference of a hairdresser/make-up place at La Romana. I've already got my appointment there (well, my dominican friend called them, since she is the closest to a Bridesmaid that I have) and looks like they are pretty good with brides.

I will do the trial three days before the wedding, and hope that it will work out (my friend already sent them the pictures of the hair and make-up that I want). If you want I can tell you how it worked out after the wedding.

The hairdresser place is the following (but looks like they don't have email, so is better to call them):

Salón Ondina (1) 809 813 0830. Address: Restauración 25, La Romana, DR

Hope this helps!

We didn't have the sky fireworks display, but we did have the fireworks around the dance floor for our first dance and they were gorgeous...all of the guests loved them, and they are definitely not something you will really ever see in the States!

The food at the wedding was FANTASTIC - and I am picky! We were able to create our own cocktail hour & dinner menu (we picked from the options given but were able to do lobster tail, ribeye, chicken, mahi mahi for the main courses and we picked our salads and side dishes also - we had a buffet because we had 150 people, and it was great!)  The chef that caters the wedding is an outside vendor and so it is much more upscale than the regular resort food.

Also, if you were thinking of the fireworks but wanted something a little bit cheaper (they start at $600 for either 60 or 90 seconds I believe), we did Sky Lanterns at the Rehearsal Dinner and the guests absolutely LOVED them - that was a lot of people's favorite part of the whole trip, they are amazing.  Another girl whose wedding was the day before ours did Sky Lanterns at her wedding and they were gorgeous also. Plus they're fun because they're interactive.  And I bought 85 of the eco-friendly ones for about $125 including shipping. These are a few of the pictures from our Rehearsal Dinner on the beach when everyone did the lanterns.  (We sprung for a photographer for the event...totally amazing and worth it!!)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
