Dreams La Romana

My ceremony was originally scheduled for 4, then it was changed to 3:30 the day before yet honestly I believed it started at 4 anyways, LOL. My reception was at 6.  The timing between the two left room for some wonderful photos!

Hi!  I had added myself to a list months ago, but didn't make this list.  I am getting married on the May 19th, 2012 on the beach and our reception is at the Seaside Grill.  I am super excited and GRATEFUL for all the ladies on this thread.  I have learned SO much and look forward to sharing more and more information as May draws closer.  Thanks!

THis thread has been great.  thanks for all the info.   There is one quesiton I have though.  We are doing the basic wedding package that is free with the 7 night honeymoon suite preffered package.  So it is the dreams wedding in paradise.  We are having a big reception when we get home to the US, so we are not worried about a reception and other add ons.  I also work for Federal express and get 75% off shipping so i will probably just send a box with a bunch of decorations for chairs and gazebbo that way.   But my main question is, do you have to pay an addition fee for the priest.  I noticed something about a judge fee also.  Is this included in your wedding package, or is this something you have to pay extra when you get there for your wedding.  Thanks in advance for any help.

Jenny is also helping us out and has been amazing so far. We just got back from the dominican on a trip this year and stopped in at the dreams to book everything and check out all the wedding locations, rooms, restuarants, and basically everything with the resort.  ANd it looks amazing.  Cant wait for August 2012.

Voltron,

Congrats!!

The fee for the judge or priest is in addition to your wedding package - I believe its around $500.  Also keep in mind that you have to pay for a translator because the officiants perform the ceremony in spanish (not sure if this fee is included in the $500, or in addition to - we have a friend performing our ceremony, so there is no fee.)

Also, the resort discourages shipping your decorations - but if you do decide to, they say that you should ship things 8 weeks ahead of time so that it clears customs in time.  It might be worth the extra $ just to pack an extra suitcase so you know where your things are, and theyre not sitting for a month at the resort.

We also visited the resort - in July - and it is amazing! Congrats on the wedding!!

Hey Ladies,

My wedding is only a couple weeks away and I wanted to give you a heads up.  My ceremony got pushed from 4pm to 5pm which I AM NOT happy about.  This means I will have very little time for pictures before my 6:30pm ceremony.  My fiance and I are considering pushing the reception back until 7pm to give us a bit more time but I'm worried about the sunsetting and therefore the increase in time won't actually be of any help.

Just make sure your planner gives you confirmation of the time of your ceremony because even though I told her the time that I wanted back in April, she never actually confirmed it and it was just yesterday that I found out.  She gave me the option of getting married on the beach instead (which I do not want at all - we specifically came to this resort for the gazebo, or moving it to 2pm which won't work for us, not to mention the heat!)

We are considering taking pictures prior to the ceremony because of the lighting and also so that we are not then rushed or God forbid the ceremony before us gets delayed and then we're really screwed!  And besides that, I'm a bit traditional in the whole thing about not seeing the bride before the wedding so I'm really not too happy about this option but I might have to suck it up.

Not something I wanted to find out about just 2 weeks before my wedding!  I don't want it to happen to any of you.

Sabrina

Hi Sabrina
Do you have only a symbolic ceremony?
Normal goes a ceremony 15-20 minutes "maximum"
The last wedding we shot there was 12 minutes. 5pm ceremony 5:20pm done... Your photographer has 40 minutes time to make family pictures. 6:00pm to 6:45pm pictures of you and your husband.    Talk with you photographer.    An see the positiv things : The light 5pm is great for ceremony pictures. =)    I hope you will have a great wedding in the dreams la romana =)   Sunny greetings from the Dominican Republic   Pascal

Hi Sabrina! Honestly, I think 5pm is gonna work great for you. I have reserved mine for 4.30pm but am thinking of pushing it to 5pm; as Pascal said, the light at 5pm is great, and it wont be as warm (think of how hot it's gonna be in your dress!) you will still have plenty of time for your photos :) My reception is starting at 7pm too because the DJ is for 4 hours and we have to finish at 11pm so that works out perfectly too. and you will move to the nightclub afterwards so dont worry that you are losing any time, it'll all work out fine i'm sure! 1 hour to 1.5 hours is plenty of time for photos I think. try not to worry - you're getting married in TWO WEEKS!!!! yay!!!! woot.gif

Sabrina-

As the photographer mentioned, our ceremony was at 4, it maybe took about 30 minutes or so for our ceremony. Dinner was at 6:30, by 6:30 it was dark.  We got married at the gazebo, and it was HOT!!!! We were all sweating, we had more than enough time to take pictures, the sun began to set around 5:15 or something like that.  The sun takes about a full hour to set, so if you take pictures anytime between 5 and 6 you will get awesome photos!!!!

If I had the choice to do it again, I would have picked a letter time to better preserve my make up, because in some of my pics you can see a sweat streak running down my cheek, LOL.

LADIES I CAN NOT REPEAT THIS ENOUGH - RELAX......TIME, LOCATION, DOES NOT MATTER!!!! EVERYTHING TURNS OUT PERFECT.  DO NOT STRESS THE SMALL THINGS. YOUR GUEST WILL BE WOWED BY THE BEAUTIFUL SETTINGS NO MATTER IF YOU GET MARRIED AT THE GAZEBO, PIER, BEACH OR IN THE POOL!!!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
