Dreams La Romana

Recommended Posts

Booohooo, I just got a call from our TA and he said that Sunwing has decided to stop flying directly to La Romana after March 2010... ughhh... so now we have to fly to Punta Cana and take the 2hr bus ride...

Our other options are to:

1. book at a one of their other options in Punta Cana (Bavaro Princess, Punta Cana Princess or Grand Oasis), but none of them are as nice as DLR and I've already put our deposit down for the wedding...

2. cancel our booking with Sunwing altogether and find another supplier. But we've already put our 1st and 2nd deposits down to Sunwing. But, there is a booking through Air Canada Vacations that leaves 2 days later (Sunday) that's about $100 cheaper. Arriving on Sunday (our wedding is booked for the Wednesday) - is that too close to the wedding date?

Is anyone else doing the bus ride from PC to LR? I was so happy our flights were direct to LR and we didn't have to do the bumpy trip...

Oh, AND they want our decision by 5pm tomorrow...

I'm not too happy with Sunwing right now! censored.gif

Sorry to hear about your travels. I am also flying into Punta Cana then taking a shuttle or whatever's provided to DLR. Our flight arrives at 8pm in PC so it'll be pretty late by the time we finally arrive at the resort! Also if you arrive on a Sunday and plan to have the wedding on Wednesday, you should probably be fine. Like I said, we are pretty much getting there late Saturday night and my wedding date was moved from Monday to Wednesday by Tiara.

Good luck with you decision.

We are also doing the 1 hr 45 min bus ride we were hoping to fly right into the La Romana but it wasn't an option. It's going to be a shitty drive but I think it will be fine we are going to be arriving in PC at 10am so we get to see some of the country side. You would be fine to arrive on Sunday and have your wedding on wedneday as KPEG said.

We've decided to stick with our original booking and just do the 2hr bus ride. A few of our guests agreed that with some Presidente, it'll be all the more fun!

We looked into re-booking with a few other suppliers and even though the online rates seemed low, the group quotes came back $300pp more than Sunwing!!

Plus Sunwing and DLR have agreed to upgrade us to stay :) Woohoo!

You're lucky you get to see the countryside during the day! We arrive at night so there will be nothing to see but head lights and the dashboard... for 2 hours!! sad.gif

Should i be ok with arriving on Wed for a Sat wedding?
Dolphinluck, I think that may be ok but double check with Tiara. If you're getting there Wednesday morning, your chances of being ok are probably even better.

I think you are alright from what Tiara was saying to us Dolfinluck.

It will be nice to arrive there at noon but we have to be at the airport for 4:30am so its going to be a long day. The first day in an all-inclusive is always the worst drinking till you drop lol.

Hey Ladies,

This thread was so helpful. I'm looking into Dreams La Romana through Sunwing too.

Just a heads up. I was at the Bridal Show this weekend and a "snooty" Destination wedding planner told me she thinks Sunwing may go under within the next year and that they always drop groups.

Not sure if the company's in trouble or if she was just trying to get my business because her prices for the same hotel were WAY more than I saw on Travelocity.

I actually emailed her the next day to see if she could match the price and this is what she wrote back:

"We are not going to be able to price match with online companies as we specialize in service.

We are wedding planners and online is just a machine. "

I thought that was hillarious. PM me if you want to know the company. (Not sure if I can post it, although I still have the email.

Signature also has Dreams La Romana on their roster so I'm doing some research.

Right now the price from Toronto (incl. tax) is $1267.

I'm trying to see if I can get a discount if we do a group.

Please let me know if you've found it for less.

Thanks

P.S. I have already heard from Tiara about the prices so hopefully she's getting better at responding. AND the photos all look great.

Hi Sunandsand! Welcome to the DLR thread :)

My prices were a bit higher than yours - $1360 from T.O., departing in April - what date is yours?

I have heard that about Sunwing too, but my TA says that there are always rumors floating around about different suppliers and not to worry because we're fully covered by TICO, etc. etc....

I do know that my TA explained to me that when you see rates online, those are usually the rate for 1-2 bookings and that you typically can't book a whole group at that rate. Even once we booked our group in through our TA, the online price shot up by a few hundred $'s.

I'm currently trying to get the menu list from Tiara. I know she said she didn't want to confirm anything until we arrive, but I'd really like to make our menu cards through VistaPrint.

If anyone has the menu, could you please email it to me at: amygirl1169@hotmail.com ?

Thanks!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
