Some of our party arrives on the 23, and some on the 25th. We originally had that terrible overnighter in Toronto, but it was sorted and now we get back to Edmonton before midnight.

They didn't mention anything about a price for speakers, but honestly, I didn't think to ask. =( I feel like there are so many extra charges it is hard to know exactly how much this wedding will cost.

We were originally thinking of having the cocktails and reception on that private beach, but now I am veering more toward the Seaside grill deck, surcharge aside. I don't want to pay for drinks if people can just walk over to the bar, but the private beach is too far away from a bar for the guests. If you pay for the grill, do you still have to pay for the speakers?

One of my bridesmaids died very suddenly a couple months back, and wedding planning stopped until just recently. I feel like I am only now waking up and a lot of the details for the wedding just don't seem quite as important. We are pretty much going to get there and see what happens, I think. I have a dress, working on the vows, and I am just going to have to trust that everything else will sort itself out somehow. Might find table centre pieces in town or some such. I dunno.

Everyone here seems very happy with how their weddings have turned out, and I am very grateful for all of the positive feedback and reassuring words. Reading this forum lifted a big weight off of my shoulders.

Hi Andreanna,

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss, it is very sad and make us think of what is really important: having our loved ones close to us in that special day of the wedding. I've been losing myself in all the tiny details, and suddendly my only sister has an hernia (nothing serious but she is quite scared of surgery) and that gets me thinking on what really matters.

If you need to get to town to buy things, there is a big commercial center/supermarket (I would say a Dominican version of Target maybe) called Jumbo - this place is at La Romana (website for address and hours: http://www.jumbo.com.do/jumbo_romana.aspx ) might be easier to just go there and see what they have, instead of going to smaller shops that could take more time and maybe have less quantities. I think I might rent a car and pay a visit to Jumbo (might be 30 min drive from the hotel) to find small things for my survival kit and welcome bags.

You'll see that everything will turn out just great for you, with all the unforgettable happy memories that we all wish :)

Vancouver Bride: I'm so sorry for the loss of your bridesmaid, that is awful. You should check with your wedding coordinator about the alcohol charge, though - they usually charge the open bar per person charge no matter where you are if you have a party of 10 or more because of the extra staff the private events need. Definitely ask, but that is what we were told. You can't just have people walk to the bar for a drink if its a special event like a wedding. (Actually even if you try to have ten or more people at dinner in the restaurants on a regular night they will tell you that there is a liquor charge requirement - either per person open bar or a bottled wine purchase requirement.

Hi Butterflies!!

OMG how exciting!! I would love to meet up for a drink, you can tell me how your wedding went!! I totally know what you mean about the paperwork and details! We are in the first stages of this planning. I am here if you need support, ideas whatever! We arrive on the 23rd so we should def. coordinate a meeting. I wish you all the best with planning and prep. Have you sent out your Save the Dates yet? I am in the process of working on my invites, I'm just waiting on a conformation for my ceremony time. All the best to you!!

Hi Wellthen02!

Many thanks for offering support, same from my side, anything that you might need, just ask!!

It is great that you'll arrive at the hotel before we leave :)  We'll coordinate the meeting before leaving to DR.

About the Save the Dates, since my guests are literally around the globe, I decided on making a video announcing them that we were getting married. It was fun, we went on a Mediterranean cruise and took a pair of groom-bride chickens (the ones I use as my forum picture) and we made photos of the chickens everywhere we went. This is how the video turned out (texts are in Spanish, my native language):

So far guests have enjoyed it a lot, but the best was making it, so much fun!

By the way, I just looove chickens since I was a child, so my friends were like "of course, she just had to put chickens somewhere!" LOL

But in my wedding I won't have chicken nor feathers, just butterflies (yes... I do love animals maybe a bit too much ;))

have you had any luck in getting decor (flowers/linen etc) options from yanna or jenny? or did you just send over pics of what you wanted and they told you what they cost? I'm trying to figure out what they can actually do, but yanna just keeps telling me, what do i want. i have no idea! lol

I know, its SOO close!! Jenny is my WC, I haven't ever dealt with Yanna - who is your WC? I sent them examples of the bouquets/centerpieces and the colors that we want and she just sent me prices.  Although she does have examples so just email her and ask her to send you examples of those and pricing.  The linens I'm actually using the ones from one of the pics she sent me (I didn't request them for the linens, I requested pics of the ballroom to show my family bc I forgot to take them when we were there visiting & thats where our reception is.)  They are extra, like $25 a table or something but i love them & they match our gold tiffany chairs.  This is them below - they have sort of a gold underlay and a beige-ish/gold top linen.  Our theme is vintage so they go perfectly with everything!  Have you decided where you are having your ceremony & reception yet?

Thanks, it was fun to do LOL!!!

I'm also having the ceremony at the Garden Gazebo, and then the reception on the Seaside Grill. My WC is also Jenny :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
