From what i understand its not available from other brides, but the best person is Tiara or Yanna to answer that question.

Hello to all of the gorgeous La Romana brides or brides to be..I have been watching with much joy and excitement as you all post your review's on the wonderful Dreams resort. I have been meaning to post on this thread but I juggle 3 kids, job and University. But the time is fast approaching, we fly from England on 23rd June, and marry on the 1st of July. And I am starting to PANIC!!!! I have off loaded to friends/family and husband to be, but I dont think anyone will understand my nerves and worries as much as you all will.

Just had a letter from our tour operators to say that the legal fees have risen to 525 dollars! Thats on top of the almost £1000 its costing us for our documents to be translated and verified by the embassy(my partner has had his name changed by deed poll so we need 5xdocuments translating) I have the free wedding package, but to be honest it is not going to be any use as we have 22 people travelling and really want a private area for our reception. Can anyone help me out. Is there only the SSG that is suitable for a private reception?

I havent a clue what to do about music. Dont really want the dj after reading reviews but not sure how we can hire speakers all the way from the uk??

Is it worth up grading to the packages they offer?

Thank you so much to anyone who can help me. I just need a fellow Dreams bride to lend me their shoulder. ha ha ha.

PS, you all look gorgeous. DOLFINLUCK your service, reception and everything you did looked just perfect. I always show my partner your fab pictures. xxxx

Hello MrsEtienne2b,

I have been fallowing this thread for quite some time, but just like you never found the time to contribute to it myself (hope this will change though :))

Our big day is quite far off, March 2012 lol, however like many destination brides, I have started to organize everything as soon as we have booked!

If it will be of any help, me and my fiancee decided to have our reception (around 17ppl) on the beach. I have got inspired by pictures of the bride on this thread about beach location and I think it will look awesome, together with a bonfire at the end of the night! :) And as it will be in the evening, there will be no people on the beach and I hope it will feel quite private.

Just like you, after reading reviews about resorts DJ it put us off and as many brides here, we have decided to go with iPod dock solution. We will create loads of play lists and I am sure it will work a treat and after 11pm - off to the club! :D

In regards to the documents...well me and my fiance are quite old fashioned and we wanted to get married once and for real in Dominican...however after calculating translation charges and increase in legal fees, we opted for the option of getting married in the UK (in secret) few weeks before we go away and have symbolic ceremony at La Romana. I know it might seem that all romance of getting married will disappear, however I know that we will see our La Romana wedding (in white dress and flowers etc.) as a real and the only wedding ! :))

I am sorry if I wasn't of much help, but maybe it will put your mind at rest a little knowing that you are not the only bride out there worrying about these things! :)

Btw, where abouts in the UK are you from? I am from Kent! :))

Hi all,

I know it all seems overwhelming, believe me I remember getting on this thread when I hadn't decided which resort to go to. Now i'm just a little 2 months away and  I can't believe how fast its coming now.

We chose to have the legal ceremony at home. And we've made it that. Very dry, a friend who is able to marry us is reading us the civil code and we are signing papers. I just see it as getting our marriage liscense. No one knows this is happening and its fine that way as as far as I am concerened we are getting married where it really counts down there.

there are other brides who had dinner at Oceana and such. I do believe they make is as semi private as possible and they were very pleased with the outcome. I was gonig to get married on the beach initially but my mother has had a stroke and she's worked so hard to be able to walk again with the assistance of a cane, that I wasn't going to make it difficult for her to enjoy the evening with fighting with sand. BUT it is a beautiful option.

I've decided on using the DJ, i'm basically using him as speakers. I'm getting a friend of mine to translate the song list of special dances into spanish so he can understand. i'm still bringing my own Ipod. A cousin got the Bose system for Christmas and is bringing it down for us so when we get "kicked" out of the SSG we will still have music available to us.

I know this is just a run down of what i'm doing, but I feel good about all these options working out.

Hi ladies,

I am getting married at the Dreams La Romana resort on June 6th, 2011. I'm a bit confused as to pricing for the reception. We are having over 20 guests and my understanding is that I have to pay for anyone over 20 peoples drinks and food for the reception. This doesn't make sense to me since everyone has already paid for food and drink (all inclusive). Why would I pay for my guests to get drinks if they could get up and walk to another bar and get a all inclusive drink? Has anyone else wondered this? Do you have any advice. We def want a private function, but what other options are there?

If anyone has any advice or suggestions for what they are doing or have done that would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if anyone has any pictures of their ceremony on the beach or pier and reception. I would LOVE to see them! Thanks in advance!

Thanks so much, my photographer did such an amazing job!

I would just price everything out as sometimes the free package is cheaper depending on what you do, even if i had as many people as you i still would of saved quite a bit.

Hi ladies!!  I have been following this thread for about a week or two and just want to say that you are all a bunch of lifesavers.  My fiance and I want to get married pretty quickly (no not pregnant yet wink.gif) and thanks to all your posts we decided that Dreams La Romana was the place.  I just received confirmation from Tiara yesterday that we are booked for March 19, 2011!!  So that only leaves me 51 days to plan this wedding which is why I am so thankful for this forum.  We booked the Ultimate package for 20 people and figured that way we wouldn't have to sweat some of the details.  Now I must admit that it has been challenging to try and read 190 pages of postings so I was looking for some guidance/advice on a couple of things:

  • Music - I'm torn between using the DJ and packing my Bose sound dock.  It seems that many of the brides end up creating their own iPod playlists (which I probably will do too) so I'm not sure I see the value in getting the DJ but at the same time I really don't want to lug speakers with me.  My question is: if I don't get a DJ and I don't bring speakers does that mean I have absolutely no music at the ceremony?  I appreciate any feedback/suggestions on the subject.
  • Wedding Script - We are planning on a symbolic ceremony and I'm wondering if there is a standard script they use as a starting point or am I on my own to create one from scratch?  Any samples are greatly appreciated.
  • Gifts/Welcome kits - I think this is more of an etiquette question.  Since we planned our wedding on short notice and didn't want any of our closest family/friends to miss it we paid ALL expenses for our core 15 guests.  So do you think we still need to do welcome kits/baskets? While I think its a nice touch I don't have time and would love to save the added expense. Also, do I still need to buy gifts for MOH and best man?

I appreciate any feedback or comments and thank you for sharing!!! :)

Yvette

Hi KrystalKelley,

I know how you feel about paying for food and drinks at the reception, when you are in AI hotel!!!!!! lol :D didnt make much sense to be either....but as I understand this is more payment for their services (getting barman only for you and waiters) and menu is slightly different too. But as I was reading earlier on this thread, you can always discuss this with your wedding coordinator, they seem very helpful and understanding and together I am sure you will be able to come up with best solution for your big day. (for example maybe doing reception smwh closer to the bar so your guest will be able to get drinks themsself etc.) But either way I am sure it will work out just well :))

On the other hand if you were to choosee semi-private option, you will have a place in the restaurant arranged just for your guests and you, but you will still have other people around you that came to dine there - but it can always be an option :)

xoxo

Hey Ladies..

Thank you sooo much for coming back to me with so many fab ideas.

The marriage in the UK prior to departure sounds so much easier, I dont know why I never thought of that!!! Ive priced it up and it would save us over £700!!!!!!

I am seriously considering the beach reception, as we get married at 4.30 and it saves moving people about too much. Plus, (im gonna sound like a stalker here ha ha ) Dolphinluck, your beach reception looked amazing!! But my partner thinks one of the kids might end up on the bonfire, ha ha. We have a 3 year old and an 8 year old who suffers from ADHD and unfortunately, has no sense of danger!!

Is the fire maintained by staff? Also, do they waiter/service the drinks and food to the beach for you?

DCAIRNS, I cant believe you are almost there. I feel like you have been a shoulder for so many brides on here and now its almost your turn woo hoo..

Does anyone have any idea which photographer is included in the packages?xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
