Dreams La Romana

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about Dreams also in DR -- but haven't narrowed it down between the three.  Why did you guys decide La Romana instead of Punta Cana or Palm Beach??  Just curious... they all look so pretty and I haven't gone down to visit yet.

I've stayed at Dreams Tulum, Dreams Cabo, and Dreams Puerto Vallarta -- so naturally when planning my wedding, I wanted to go for a Dreams resort in DR!!

Hi SChica,

I chose the Dreams chain because like you I LOVE their hotels and standards!  As far as Dreams Palm Beach a friend of mine got married their last year (on the same date as me) and it was beautiful but not what I was looking for:

  • Gazeebo was right in the midst of everything (across from the main lobby, near the main buffet, right beside the residences) so just not private enough for me.  Whereas, DLR has a VERY private gazeebo so you won't have everyone "taking part" in your wedding, only your guests!

  • None of the restaurants at DPB allow for dancing, you would have to go into one of the reception hallls if you wanted to dance (not fond of that idea).  DLR allows for dancing on the seaside grill patio.

  • DPB only had one pool and DLR has 2 plus they're spread apart so you can get some privacy if you want.

  • DPB is a smaller, more cozy property so you will always see your guests.  I chose DLR since I'm travelling with a lot of people so I wanted to make sure that people didn't feel like they were always seeing  everyone else everywhere they went!

What I did really like more at DPB over DLR was the following:

  • Newer resort so all of the rooms were SPECTACULAR :)
  • Main buffet area was way nicer...no nesting birds in the roof!!
  • Shopping area just outside of the resorts main entrance (nice little 10 min walk)
  • You can walk the beach and check out other resort properties.  Only thing beside DLR is the harbour
  • Only 15-20 minutes from the airport.  Unlike DLR outside of Nov-Apr you can't fly into the local airport (LRM) so you have to do the long drive (60-90 mins) to the resort from Punta Cana or Santo Domingo

I've never been to Dreams Punta Cana but a co-worker of mine got married there in 2008 and he LOVED it!  I remember him saying that the resort was HUGE and so he had to do a tonne of walking (not so good for accesiblility issues) despite having a trolly train on the property.  Also he mentioned that the beds/rooms were dated.  Other than that he and his wife were very pleased.

Hope this helps some!

Pink Petals

I met Yanna on the Friday and decided on everything, my wedding was on Tuesday and I was asked to go to reception on the Monday the day before the wedding to pay. In the end all I had to pay for was the judge $300 as I was having a legal service and some extra petals I had wanted for the aisle 2 baskets which was $30 and a day pass for the photographer $60.

I paid for this using my Visa Debit card, I had let my bank know I was going to the Dominican Republic on the specified dates so they knew to authorise it.

For anyone who is using HDC I remember Amy saying Arnaud wanted paid by Paypal, but that paypal refused her payment as she was in another country. I contacted paypal before I left home, they advised me to write down the transaction ID number when making a payment. then send an email to paypal giving them the transaction code and explain that you are in Dominican Republic and that they should authorise the payment. All very confusing. As it turned out I had asked Arnaud to send me a paypal request for the remaining payment as I could not remember the exact amount I owed him. He told me there was no hurry and to just pay when I got home. A few days after arriving home Arnaud sent me a request and I paid it from home no problem.

Hi everyone, new here to the sight, getting married in Dreams La Romana on November 8th, our date was recently changed due to our airline changing flight dates!  We are having 26 -30 people come.  I am a little confused as to the payment for supper which we are planning on having at the Seaside Grill, do we have to pay 1000.00 just to have our reception there, plus 30.00 a plate?  Would appreciated any advice, thanks Kamala

To Kamala and the other ladies.  I sent Tiara this email on July 17th and these are the questions and answers that were provided.  The answers are in blue.  Unfortunately for me, even though I sent over the paperwork for my date to be reserved in March, they didn't process my payment until May, so she is not willing to honor the old pricing of $1260 covering everything.  That really sucks big time though.

Dear Danielle:

In that case, please check my notes below, and if you have any other question, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

1. How much is it to rent out the space for the evening? This will cost you USD 1,000.00 + 26% up to 60 guests. Additional to the 60 guests, you will be paying USD 20.00 per extra person.

2. How many people can it accommodate? The whole restaurant could accommodate 242 guests.

3. What is included in the rental of the Seaside Grill for the evening? You will have the meal included. This meal will be selected from the normal menu of the restaurants. You will have to pre-select the menu. We will give you two options as main courses, so your guests can have more than 1 option.

4. What is the menu for the Seaside Grill? Please see enclosed the actual menu. Take the notice that this information normally change every 4-5 months.

5. Would we, my fiance and I, have to pick the menu for our guests?Yes.

6. We are expecting 100 guests.  If this number is over the alloted number for the meal at the Seaside Grill, do we have to pay per person? As I mentioned above, you will be paying for the extras people after the 60 guests.

7. If we have to pay per person, how much is it?If you decide to pay per person, you will be paying the cost of the menu selected, that could be from USD 30.00 + 26% per person.

8. Is dancing permitted?Yes.

9. Can I bring an ipod docking system to play music?Yes

10.  Will we have the entire restaurant to ourselves or only a portion? If you rent out the Seaside Grill you will have it for yourselves.

11.  Can you provide me with a list of outside florists? We use different ones, if you want to quote any special floral arrangement, just let us know so we can handle this with our suppliers.

Please take the note that you will be paying for the bar service that is USD 8.00 + 26% per person, additional to the cost of the meal. Enclosed you will find a list of the drinks that will be included on your wedding reception.

Thanks for your information, I am going to e-mail Tiara today and see if what she quoted me will be the same.  I booked our wedding in April and at that time was told no fee to have reception at the SSG but would have to pay 30.00 a plate for each guest for the reception.   We are just going to go with the free Paradise Wedding package and we picked the silver wedding package for the menu.  This planning a wedding away is kind've difficult, hoping what I am picking will be what I want!

Hi All,

All I can say, and i'm repeating myself. Is get it all in writing and discuss it with Tiara.  Call her so she understands how upset we can be. I believe she is just listening to the resort (as we all have to do with our bosses) But, to cover our own bases, make sure your emails are very clear and you get clear answers.

All this to say. I'm still pleased with the resort and what it offers.  I don't want any of this to taint my day and my planning. Planning a DW, is actually in my opinion harder because your are dealing with all these anomalies. So just be persistant and be organized. I know all the brides who have passed before us have had their perfect wedding. That is what i'm trying to concentrate on. In my case with each issue I email and call Tiara and then have a follow up email to confirm what was said in the email. She has been very good and responding to me.

Anyhow.. on another note.

Are any of you bringing centerpieces?? If so what do they look like because i'm still stumped.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
