Thanks for sharing that! I love reading good reviews about DLR. A woman my Dad knows stopped him uptown one day because she had heard we were getting married there and told him that they have been to a lot of resorts and this is by far their favourite. My fiance's parents just came back from Cuba and they were talking to a man on the plane who had been to DLR as well and couldn't say enough great things about it. We are all so lucky we picked such a great place to get married!

Hello everyone,

I recently began planning my DW, and I am having trouble deciding on a resort. My ultimate wedding would be at the church at Altos De Chavon, but I do not want to stay at the Casa de Campo hotel. Are any of you ladies staying at the dreams and having the ceremony at Altos de chavon? If so what were the costs, and what did this include? Who arranges the decorations, Tiara? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Also, just thought I would share this. I emailed Tiara on the weekend asking a few questions about the wedding. Her answers are beside the questions in case anyone else had any of these same questions. Sorry if some of this was already posted here somewhere.

1. Is it possible to incorporate a sand ceremony and have our mothers pour the sand? I will have to check with the judge, since a legal wedding has their own script and process.

2. How long does the ceremony normally last? It will be around 15-20 minutes.

3. The price of a DJ is $250. Does this include the speakers? Yes

4. Is there any way we can contact the DJ before we come to let him know specific songs we want to have played? They do not have an email address where you can contact him. You can send me the list of the songs that you will require. Upon your arrival you will have a meeting with him.

5. Is there anywhere that we can have our ceremony besides the gazebo if it rains? In case that it rains we move the ceremony inside a ballroom or any other location.

6. Do you have menus for the restaurants that we could see? We are still thinking of renting a restaurant instead of just the Seaside Grill deck. I can send you this information, but it will not be (probably) the real one since we change menus every 2 months.

Hey girls! you are such live savers! I just discovered this forum and I am amazed by all the great info here. I am getting married on April 26. :)

I have been at the resort last April and absolutely loved it. It's fun and the activities are great. I assure you your guests will enjoy their stay. I also have very similar questions and did not get a chance to go through all the posts.

Amy, I read on one post that you are planning to have orange color theme. That was exactly what I was planning to do and I am looking into buying my own decorations (simple ones so I can transport them). I contacted Tiara about Dreams Ultimate package decorations but did not get a response. Sorry if this was discussed, but do they have anything orange/fuschia?

Thanks everyone for all the great posts! And very nice meeting all of you!

LAST MINUTE QUESTION FOR THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN TO DLR!

ok, so I was speaking with a friend today about how "wedding poor" I have become in the last month with all of these expenses! She was wondering if we really need to dish out the $1000 USD plus 26% tax to have to SSG rented just to our party for the entire night. So my question for those who have been there, is if you think that there might be a way to section off the restaurant so that it is still private? Also - since there are 9 a la carte's, would the whole restaurant even be that packed in the first place?

Just wondering, cause if I can save almost $1500 Canadian dollars then I just might!

Hi, I am having the same problem, as the costs of this wedding are just mounting!!!!! We have three children to pay for going as well!!! We have decided that we are not going to pay to "hire" the ssg nor pay the extra to have everyone served at the same time. We have paid £1000 plus each for an all inclusive holiday, which encludes food and drink, also I have 22 people all paying to stay at their hotel therefore I am refusing to pay for food we have already paid for!!! We are just going to ask for a table to be set up at the side of the ssg and we will all get our food when it comes!! I'm quite sure none of my guests will complain. I am having an evening reception when we get home for all the guests unable to make it to dlr, (and I get to wear my dress again). So it is costing us a lot too. Something somewhere has to give.

Also ther are two reviews on trip advisors of weddings at DLR, one paid for a private reception, the other didn't and she said her tables were set away from the others in the restaurant and the waiters and staff were fantastic to them, they felt it was private enough and didn't regret not having a private reception.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
