Am I engaged or what???

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this should have been in the venting section, lol! A year ago now me and my Sweetie had one of our serious sit downs and decided we would get married. We set a date for 8/29/09, which is the date we met on in 2004. When we met I had no intention of our relationship going in the direction it did and the way it did he really surprised me. All in all we love each other very much and have grown in many ways over the past 4 years, we are BFF's. So after our serious discussion we looked at rings (I have expensive taste) and I started doing some planning. Well of course we have been affected by this economy like most people and have some financial challenges to deal with but we have been able to stay afloat and also decided to move our date back 9 months. Well the thing is he never "officially proposed" and I mean asked. I already know that he will get the ring when he can because he gets an A+ in the gift giving department and that's probably why I haven't gotten one yet, but should I consider us engaged? Our families and friends do since we have been talking about it and planning. I guess I'm just stuck right now on he didn't officially ask and maybe he will when he gives me a ring. What are you ladies thoughts, has anyone else had a similar experience?

I proposed to my FI first. I didn't get a ring for a while...I too have expensive taste. Well, after lots of showing him the types of rings Iliked, in a spiffy powerpoint presentation, he got me THE ONE I wanted. It was a Taccori and about 9 grand. Well on a terrible night, I'm still trying to forget, my ring got stolen. So, I didn't know if I wanted a new ring or wanted to wait to see if mine ever showed up, which it still hasn't. He did replace it...because my finger was nakie....I don't like this one as much as my first ring....but it is a beautiful ring. Remember, good things come to those who wait. It will happen.

I guess what I am trying to say is, YOU'RE ENGAGED!

My FI and I had talked about getting married since two months into our relationship. He told me that one day he wanted to marry me, so for a year and a half we "talked" about it and knew that one day we would. When we had the money we shopped for my ring together because it was no surprise that we were going to get married. (He had moved from another state to be with me, so it was a pretty sure thing!)

I still wanted the "official" proposal though, even though I wanted to help pick out my ring. (What can I say, I am a girl!) So FI kept the ring after we picked it out to "surprise" me with a proposal in the near future. I told him he could wait long! He ended up "officially" proposing about a month later. I say Officially as in he asked me, said a bunch of romantic things and gave me the ring. To me that is when I considered us "engaged." BUT.. had we done things as you did, with setting the date and continuing with the planning, I would consider that engaged.

If you feel like you are missing out on the "pop the question" bit then ask him if he will do a proper proposal when he gets the ring, even if he knows the answer will be yes. Every girl deserves to be told how much the man she loves wants to spend forever with her.

Thanks ladies I guess I'm being anxious for him to ask, and again profess how much he wants to spend the rest of his life with me. Thing is I know he does things last minute and can be spontanious (sp), so I'm just going to be patient cause it's coming.

Hi guys, I'm so happy I found this! And here I thought I was the only one out there without an official proposal. Me and my FI are pretty much in the same boat big3n09. We have already began planning and giving everyone the heads up. I hate the "Aww, when did he propose?" question too Soon2bewed09!!! I feel so confused as in how to answer lol

Yes, it's good to know you’re not alone. The question I hate is "where is your ring", again I have expensive taste but I also know how to prioritize as well. I will get one when we can we have other things on the table right now that's priority over a ring. Not sure if you guys listen to Michael Basiden (sp) radio talk show but today's topic he asked ladies would they want a ring or a house and more ladies actually said a ring. my opinion on that was, that's part of the reason we are in this current economy.

I get what you mean about people asking about where is the ring and all those kind of questions! I was engaged for about 10 months before we bought my ring and until we bought my ring I had a cz ring that looked like what I wanted and to be honest unless I told someone, they had no idea that it wasnt real. Just a thought. Also what we have done with my ring now is I got the main stone I wanted and it is in a silver band and then for my birthday we will upgrade it with more little stones and a white gold band. It makes it easier than making a huge purchase all at once, to just build the ring over time instead

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
