Isn't it strange how friends totally jump at a DW. This wedding really has proven that you can choose your friends but not your family.

It is a good day because I just talked to my dad, and my brothers passport finally got approved. Apparently my brother hadn't paid taxes from his high school/college job and his passport application was denied! OMG, my mom has been freaking out and my dad ended up paying all of his back taxes so he could get the passport! His taxes were 3 times what my parents gave us for the wedding! I feel absolutely awful about all of this and am thinking about giving them back the money they gave us. What a poopy situation sad.gif
Oh my god, Autumn! how crappy!!! wow! You know what, it's just been crazy! my Dad got laid off about 6 months ago and has been searching for jobs, but he was denied his unemployment (long story...) so he had to wait for an appeal and go to court and wait to hear back from them. The whole time, their household has been without that $ so they really haven't been able to put any $ together for us, so i've been saving everything I can from my paycheck and my FI is secretly stashing away $ just in case. My Dad just found out last night his appeal was reversed and he gets to keep his unemployment money! it's going to work out no matter what happens, but it's crazy how everything happens around these times!
I'm not sure what to tell you about the $ your parents gave you...financially, if they are ok with you keeping it, then I would prob just keep it. Maybe if you can tell they really need it, just give a portion back? I don't know, I think all the money situations are just very specific to the situation. I know it is for me. I'm watching my girlfriend who is getting married in Sept, getting angry that her wedding budget is only 60K, I'm like, are you kidding?!

I'm so happy things are going to work out for your parents! I really hate dealing with money stuff. It is so ironic that poopy stuff tends to happen around something that is supposed to be happy like a wedding. I was watching some random reality wedding show where the hosts come in and give some deserving couple the wedding of their dreams. Well this one, the bride was almost killed in a car wreck a week before her original wedding. I just that there and cried as they went through her whole story about learning to walk again and how her fiance nursed her back to health. I mean honestly, I'm worrying over passports and maracas while this couple was going through h3ll. I just realized this sounds like a downer, but really it helps keep things in perspective!

Also, can you imagine spending 60K on a 50 person wedding at Dreams? My guests would have the best OOT bags ever wink.gif

Have you checked the airlines yet for availability? I went on last week and saw how the only non-stop flight for us was through Alaska and in some cases, there were only two seats left (at least for my dates). Whether that's the truth or not, it got people concerned and they booked. The people I KNOW are going, I've been putting a little bit of pressure on because I know they want non-stop flights or else they will be pissed.

i'm sure you have checked, but you could look and let your mom know that way. I think those guests always come along later because they already know they will be there no matter what.

OMG! I just read your blog and he actually proposed?!?! Yippee!

Questions... Does your family/friends know you guys are getting married? Or are you keeping it totally secret? Did you get an engagement ring and can you wear it? Or did you guys just get wedding bands?

I am having a very hard time deciding on what time to hold my ceremony. The resort is in Jamaica and it is during the first week. My WC is Spanish and honeslty has never been in Jamaica during this season before. Do any of you Jamaica brides know what time you are going to hold your ceremony? She suggested 5PM but I am nervous that the sun sets early in DEC and we may not get many pics in the daylight. On the flipside the pool activities are still going on until 5PM so if we do it eariler there will be lots of people at the pool (right in front of where we are getting married). What do you girls think?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
