2010 Winter Olympics.... HELP!

So we are planning on going to the olympics next year, but I've totally forgotten about it til now so I haven't been working on accomodations. Is anyone else planning on going (aside from you BC girls) and have already booked? What kind of deals are you finding?

So BC girls recommendations please! We are going for at least a week, possibly 2 weeks. I do not want to stay at Whistler. I really want to be downtown, like yaletown or I'd even do point grey. We are going to go to a few events (mens slalom, mens halfpipe and ariel skiing) and then lots of hockey. Plus I love Vancouver and really want to be downtown. i've even looked into renting a house in North Vancouver, i could deal w/ that. I just don't want to spend a fortune, and by fortune I mean the $3000/night I keep seeing. Of course how great would it be to only pay like$100 per night, HA! But really we're looking at around $1000/week. Is this doable? Do i need to rethink this? I want to keep the money spent to a min cause we're taking a month trip to Africa (cape town to cairo) next summer and need LOTS of money for that trip! I brought this up while having dinner w/ Joes parents tonight and they jumped on and want to go so they of course are paying for the accomodations, but he doesn't want to spend much so Joe and i will be picking up the rest.

We're driving cause it's only a 9 hour drive although w/ olympics the border will be a nightmare! Have any of you heard of deals on event tickets, or on buying multiple tickets to different events?

Any advice would be great!

Thanks girls!

Thanks abbie. Do you work for Horizon/Alaska? I used to work for skywest and used to live 3 days a week in yvr and would just use our airport agreement and hop on horizon pay $23 for international fees and head seattle and up to vancouver. I'm pretty set on driving just so i have a car up there but if there was a good pkg to fly I would definitely consider.

The hardest part thus far is finding accomodation w/out spending a FORTUNE! Hotels are booked. There are a few rooms but if you search they are charging $3600 per night.... at the holiday inn!!!! Thats ok cause I really want a vacation rental cause we usually cook for ourselves when we go somewhere. We'll eat out a few times. I've found some rentals that are around $300 per night which is average for Van but they want a min of 2 weeks and we're really only thinking of 1 week right now.

  • 2 weeks later...

WOW How generous to offer!!! We are really looking to be at a house or apt not a hotel room. It's FI, myself, our daughter (who will be 1), and my in-laws. We always rent apt or houses wherever we go cause we like to eat in most of the time, at least for breakfast and lunch. We're clean freaks. FMIL is the rental leasing manager for the biggest realty company in Montana so she is all about clean and taking care of properties. I've spent plenty of time there so I know my way around and I'm pretty much okay w/ being anywhere in vancouver at this point.

It seems like alot of the locals are actually leaving for the olympics!

My ex is one of my best friends and he lives in Van. his parents live in north van and they have a home in palm springs but they haven't decided if they are going to come home fro the olympics or stay in palm springs. and i just can't fathom spending $7000+ just for lodging for the week and a half, plus tickets to everything, etc. But i've wanted to go for YEARS to this olympics so i'm pretty set on it and the biggest thing I want to go to is the US-Canada hockey game which is gonna cost me at least another $1500 for just tickets.

We are in need of all the help we can get! LOL

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
