Great Parnassus Cancun - B

their front desk - F-

Since I had my wedding at a non-AI, I decided to stay at the Great Parnassus with my guests. Last May, my mom and I stayed here to make sure it would be good for the guests. We loved it. Fast forward to my wedding week...... ah not so much.

The problems with this hotel started when my mom, and two other couples were turned away because they over booked the hotel. They made them stay at a different hotel down the strip for the night. Greg and I tried talking to the night manager Federico but he was no help. I was so upset. I had 50 people staying here and they couldn't accommodate my party. They came back the next day but it took a long time before they even got their rooms. Everyone had to leave their luggage in my room. The good side of it was that they gave my mom the Presidential Suite! It was just like the oceanfront room we had but she was on the 12th floor and had the best views.

Here's the main event of the week - Greg got 14 stitches thanks to this hotel not taking care of their maintenance problems. The night before the wedding, I was showering to get ready to go to dinner. He was taking a nap. Since we had a hot tub on our balcony, the bathroom only had a shower. It was huge and high and you had to step up to get into it. When I was done, I opened up the doors to the shower to find all of my towels on the floor soaking wet. Even my flip flops were floating around (The closet is in the bathroom but its a HUGE walk in). There was seriously about 3" of water. So I called out to Greg to come quick. sad.gif I feel so horrible that I did that bc I didn't realize the water had spilled out the bathroom door and into the hallway! All I heard was,"AHHHHHHH get out here, get out here!!" When I opened the door he was on the floor holding his leg covered in blood. He slipped and fell..hit his leg on the corner of the concrete wall. I got him a towel right away and that's when I saw he had 2 deep gashed..I saw his bone. It was blehhhhhhhhhhhhh gross. He had to drag himself down the hall to get onto a chair. It looked like a bloody murder scene. I called up the docs and they took him to the Doctor's Office in the hotel.

14 stitches later........ $300 later....... Greg goes to the front desk, the same a-hole night manager is there. The first thing he says to Greg,"We are not responsible. You let the water out of the shower." Not even a, "How are you? How can we help you?" Nothing. Greg had to argue with him for a while without anything done for us. Greg even threatened to sue if they weren't going to give a crap. We told them to get maintenance to our room but they didn't. The next time I showered I did some investigating myself. There was a crack where the shower met the floor.. so bad that the water came out like a faucet! Here this douche is blaming us for the water, yet it was always their problem all along.

Unfortunately, after this..Greg was barely able to stand during the ceremony. He had to sit 75% of the time at our wedding and never got to dance. He couldn't even enjoy a drink bc of the meds they gave him. He was in so much pain for the whole wedding sad.gif I'm proud of my lil trooper though, he toughed it out without complaining once about the pain.

We ended up getting stuck in Cancun an extra day bc of bad weather here in Jersey. When my travel agent called the hotel to get them to give us the room for free since we booked so many rooms that week with our guests, the response they gave her was,"Why should we comp their room if they're threatening to sue. We don't owe them anything." After debating with them for a while, they told her that they'll only comp our room if Greg signs a form that says he will not sue the hotel. So he did. He also got a good manager to refund the $300 and they gave us a $130 credit towards the gift shops.

Aside from this, we still enjoyed staying at the hotel believe it or not. Aside from the front desk behind incompetent idiots and crab asses, the other staff were so friendly. It's not the absolute greatest AI, but it was good for what we wanted.

That is too bad about Greg's leg!! So sorry for him! I'm glad JM was there to make you laugh the whole time from what it sounds like in your other post! What a bunch of A-holes they sound like at that hotel! WTF? Did they have a DR at the resort or did you guys have to go to a hospital? Hope he is doing better!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
