Ipod or DJ?

Recommended Posts

We decided to go the I Pod route, mainly because we just couldn't see spending the money on the DJ. We are renting the speaker and microphone system from the hotel...I think it's like $300 for the whole thing (ceremony, cocktail hour and 4 hour reception) and they will do the set up. We are creating the playlist and will have back up CDs (although the hotel says the system will play the I-Pod) and making sure the volume is consistent and will fade songs. A groomsman and bridesmaid are going to co-emcee (make announcements and control the i-pod, etc.). I think it'll be fine! We're having a fairly small wedding, around 40 people.

DH and I used the DJ and we had approximately 30 guests. We didn't want to have to worry about making and organizing playlists. We ended up burning a CD with our first dance song and some of our favs and gave it to the DJ. For our resort we wouldn't have saved much more if we were to rent out the music system vs hiring the DJ anyway. I don't regret using the DJ.

It really depends on how picky you are with music. Good luck with your decision!

We're on the fence about this too. I'm leaning towards iPod because the same amount of money we would spend on the DJ could go towards a sound dock that we will buy and have use of after the wedding. He thinks the DJ would make people more likely to dance but I think this is more the choice of music than anything. I've seen bad DJs where no one dances and that's even worse than no DJ IMO! Plus, we're such a small group (about 20 people), I'm really not sure a DJ is worth the money.

The villa where I am having my reception has an Ipod docking station and speakers throughout so I'm going with the Ipod to save money. While having the convenience of a DJ, mic for speaches/announcements, etc would be nice I cannot justify the extra $800-$1000.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
