Any other brides for Rose Hall Resort?

Recommended Posts

Mrs. Reed 2 b--I guess we have a whole sticker shock club! Lol. I feel your pain! neither me nor my guests have ever been to a destination wedding either. I expected a more pain free experience and my girl friends are surpised when I tell them how my planning is going. I think we were all expecting that I would just have to pick a package and show up with my FI and my dress. I guess we were a little wrong. Lol.

Pandabride--Thanks again for the heads up on Day O. That has actually been the only pain free decision I've made. This forum is awesome!

Tauristar--What did you decide to do with your package? Did you keep it so that you could keep your time?

You know, I don't believe it's so much sticker shock, I think a lot of it is because they don't really disclose things unless you ask the right questions. And obviously you don't know what the right questions are if you've never planned a wedding before.

@Mrs. Reed- I didn't even realize there was a bar set up fee for parties of 70 or less ppl. I told my coordinator a long time ago I would probably have 60 ppl and this wasn't even mentioned. Hummm... I mean it's about being up front.

In terms of another reception venue, I'm going to call my uncle in JA tomorrow and see if he has any suggestions. I'll see what I can do to help you out.

@spellbound- That decision has really made things easier for me too. I'm still trying to figure out decor though.

@taruistar- Did you receive the quotes from Grande Garden? If so, are the prices the same as Tai Flora?

Pandabride--Thanks so much! I appreciate you trying to help a sista out. Yeah it seems like they can be sneaky with their cost. That's why now I'm asking about EVERYTHING. Like does the ceremony cost include chairs for ALL my guests. I would hate to find out only like 10 chairs are included in the package price and I have to pay extra for more chairs. I just want the regular white chairs...nothing special. It seems silly but I need to know. Still haven't recieved an answer to that question. ummm... Another question I asked was if I only need half of the ballroom, why can't I pay half the price? No answer to that yet either. I'm being charged $2000 venue rental and set up fee for the ballroom. I only need half of the ballroom, isn't it logical that I should only have to oay half the price? Girl, I can go on and on...

Spellbound--I see you got lucky with the Day O for your reception too. I'm still disappointed my date was booked. I feel like I'll have so much less stress if the date was open and I could tell RHR to suck it as far as a reception goes. lol

Tauristar--I'm working with Charmaine for my flowers and decorations. Nice lady but she has her moments where communication can be very poor. Sometimes when we talk she asks the same questions she had asked in previous conversations as if we never discussed the topic before. Prices for flowers and decorations are high too but she is willing to cut some cost. Basically, the more you spend, the more she'll throw in for free. Although you won't feel like they're free because you're spending so much. Anyway, I don't want to discourage you, I don't know who you'll work with. Good luck. I'm happy to let you know where she gave me some breaks, just let me know.

I was able to work out a package that includes decor. Is there something else I'm supposed to be doing?

Mrs. Reed 2 b - I'm likely going to wait until the week before I go to let Charline know of my decision. It seems that whenever I ask a question, she tells me that we can deal with that "closer to the time."

All - When are you guys sending in the documents required to obtain your marriage license?

@spellbound- I also worked out a package with decor. I meant the added items I plan on bringing down to Jamaica. They'll set it up for me but I'm still trying to decide if I even want to go through with the effort of lugging things down, lol.

I'm also waiting to tell Rose Hall about my decision. I just want to lock things in as far as the ceremony goes and then let them know the reception there won't be happening.

In terms of the marriage license, I think you have to begin this three months in advance. I could be wrong but that's what I've been told.

@Mrs. Reed- I couldn't get in touch with my uncle but I'm looking around and asking my cousins as well so I'll get back to you on the venue suggestions. Also, by the way, I'm going to be a Mrs. Reid too... just with an "I" instead of an "E", lol.

@Pandabride--How cool, another Mrs. Reed, or Reid. lol Again, I thank you for all your efforts in getting suggestions for another reception venue.

@Spellbound--We've decided to get married by our pastor shortly before going to Jamaica (like within the same week, maybe a day or two before we leave). I just wanted to keep things simple and not worry about sending off official documents and making sure they have everything to make our union legal. I'm working with a destination wedding specialist/travel agent from destination weddings and she said brides do it all the time and the guests don't know the difference unless the couple decide to tell them...which we probably won't do. lol

Ok-

Pandabride6 - I went with the One Love Package and spent a premium to get my time slot, but I'm saving over 2k!

I did get pricing back from Grand Garden - more than I expected for bouquets, the brides is as much as the bridesmaids. I'm thinking of doing parasols for them to save. $125 seems like too much. I'd rather spend on their gifts.

I'd also rather spend on reception decor. I'm thinking of doing lots of candles to create ambiance.

Now I'm ordering the cake. I am just wanting simple 4 layers with dots or pearls...i'll let you know how pricey this gets.

Good luck Ladies! I love having this forum to bounce ideas around!

My last talk with the coordinator there, Yolandi, she mentioned there is a $450 fee per outside vendor we choose. There's also a $2,500 fee for a ceremony site not directly on the property (Aqueduct, etc.)

Chances are I may not be able to negotiate bringing the ceremony site fee down since it's techincally a facility rental. But I was wondering if anyone choosing an outside vendor was able to talk the resort into waiving the fee.

Or if you were able to negotiate something else with RHR, can you let me know how you did it?
hi pandabride6

congrats on your upcoming wedding i'm also having my wedding at the Rose Hall Hotel and based on the info i have gotten i learnt that the aqueduct doesn't belong to the hotel its rented by them so the cost that you mentioned goes out to everyone but on the other hand yolandi has been great with the work she has put in with helping me shes very responsive and attentive i would recommend her to anyone and the company that does weddings at the hotel is absolutely fantastic i have already checked them out and some of the work they've done...so beautiful visit their site its GrandeGarden::Front Page i'm on right now

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
