We are getting married in May, after a two year engagement. We were both in College, so we decided to wait until after we graduated and boi and so happy that we decided to wait. I feel that we are way more settled and we had time to plan and decide on what exactly we wanted to do.

We got engaged October 2008 and are getting married June 2010- so not two years but longer than we would like. Its really about money, we are paying for everything ourselves, no help from the parents. Plus we know a lot of people we invited would not be able to go unless they had lots of time to save.

We've been engaged over 5 years lol we were just not in a hurry to get married - we're only doing it now as he leaves the forces in 3 years and wants me to be in the pension trap lol he's also going to Afghan soon so it just made sense.

FMIL asked me about 4 years ago not to wait too long as "jock" was getting old! I said who the hell is that lol she said my brother! Before FI could jump in i said "oh can he afford a trip to antigua! and i've never met him so not happening" lol his step dad said quite agree and told her to shut her trap lol

She has mentioned it since before we decided we would actually do it I'd just tell her to mind her own business lmao She got the hint once FI ripped her a new one lol

We got engaged on December 6, 2004 and will be getting married May 23, 2009, so its going to be like 4.5 years? I was only 17 back then so my parents weren't having it even though we had a baby like a year after we got engaged, but we are older and wiser now and I think we waited the perfect amount of time.

He actually proposed Oct. 2000. We're finally getting married May 11. We where supposed to do the big wedding back in 02, but due to me getting laid off we postponed and never reset our date until last year when we decided on a DW.

There is no rush to get married, especially if you are paying for it yourself. It's not cheap by any means, even a DW! So until people start handing over there credit card, you can be engaged as long as you want!!

i wanted to give everyone plenty of time to save, but honestly, no one saved little by little except my one sister. most people are last minute, holy-crap-how-are-we-supposed-to-afford-this types who are banking on large tax returns to pay for their trips or not able to make it at all. they all act like we sprang this on them even though they've known about it and the approximate cost for over a year and a half, lol. no matter what you do, someone will fault you for it! just enjoy your time planning!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
