Wedding Ceremony Specifics

Recommended Posts

Hello there

We are planning on doing a symbolic ceremony and I am trying to figure out what to include. I want more traditions vs. religious ideas due to being a catholic girl marrying a jewish guy. We are not religious but we do value our upbringings and the traditions.

Do you ladies have your ceremonies sorted out? Do you have readings to include, poems, hand/sand ceremonies, candle lightings or other things to include that remembers lost ones, breaking the glass etc.

Just want a very special and memorable ceremony so ideas are welcomed!!

Thanks

Stephanie

You probably want to include the most important Jewish rituals, like, The chuppa, breaking of the glass, and a kiddush (wine blessing)

I also like to incorporate The Lord's Prayer into my ceremonies, as it is predominantly Catholic, but was originally a Jewish prayer. I also love performing a sand ceremony, as symbolism of 2 individuals coming together, retaining their original form, but in a new surrounding together.

There are several other Jewish rituals though, that you might consider - like a modern day artwork and text ketubah, and even a universalist version of The Seven Blessings.

Hope this helps.

since you are interfaith and don't want too much religious stuff, you could consider including mexican wedding traditions instead. do a google search for mexican wedding traditions. there is something about 13 coins (arras), and there's a lasso (el lazo) ceremony.

We are non-believers and won't have religious stuff at all. This was one of the perks of getting married on the beach wink.gif So it will be about marriage in general. We have nice readings (some of them still to be picked), vows, sand ceremony. No reference to God or Jesus.

I asked my minister to send me the text of what he was intending to say. I'm working on it now. You should actually try to do the same. The best way to put up a personal ceremony is to talk to your minister.

The Mexican Unity Ceremony is beautiful, but you might want to modify it. The Lasso is actually a Rosary, more of a religious symbol than a traditional/symbolic one. And, the 13 coins are representative of Christ and His disciples.

Again, maybe more religious than you want, not to mention possibly offensive to the Jewish side of the family - just trying to be sensitive.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
