The photographer you've elected to go with doesn't have anything in their own portfolio that resembles the style you're looking for?

Regardless of any taboo, why not hire someone experienced in the style you're looking for. If your photographer doesn't have any examples in that style, then its entirely possible that they will be unable to reproduce that particular look for your wedding.

Expecting a photographer to produce something that is inconsistent with his/her previous work is a recipe for disappointment for either or both parties.

There is definitely something for everyone. I think you will be happily surprised to discover that there are a few professional photographers from Canada and the US who are based in Mexico - hence immediately cutting the cost of hiring them with the additional benifit of having a team member with cultural insight and knowledge of Spanish. Happy to help.

Help!!
Check out Michael Saab Photography. His prices are reasonable and he does great work. Remember you want a good no great photographer since the pictures will capture memories that you will have forever..

Hi. I'm new to this thread and really concerned with Photography. I am trying to find a photographer who's base rate is not too expensive so that adding travel might not be that difficult to swing. This is tricky, because I also want their work to be amazing!

So far on the forum, I've stumbled upon Kristina Hill Photography. Her work catches my eye and since she's based in New York, I can meet her first (I'm based in NJ). Another great thing is she has photographed a wedding at the resort I'm marrying at.

When I emailed her, she was nice and said she'd do the TTD session for free. I'm going to continue to shop around though.

Anyone else know of someone like this (cheaper rates but good quality?) I've also posted an ad on Craigslist.org and am hoping for the best!!!

Update : I've gotten a lot of great responses from Craigslist.org posting. May not be such a bad idea. Will keep you posted.

You can always try someone that lives where you're getting married.

I'm bringing my photographer down with me, but he's a friend of my fiance's(if he wasn't the photographer he'd be the best man) so we're only getting charged flight and hotel (about $700) and we're getting Engagement photos, our wedding, TTD and the AHR covered. There is no possible way we could beat that for pricing.

Not only all this, but some photographers work for years to develop their distinguished style, asking them to do anything other than what they do is no different than asking Van Gogh to paint like Picasso.

Evan, I see you're from Nashville - I can't place you to save my life but I know I've heard of you - do you do anything with Nashville State or the ASMP?

I did originally look at a couple of local photographers and their sessions started at approx $2200 to $2600 - this included 8 hours of coverage. I am bringing my own photographer in from Chicago for the same cost, and I'm getting my engagement session, the rehearsal dinner, the entire day of the wedding, plus my TTD session the day after. You simply can't beat that! Granted, this is a friend of mine, so I'm sure I'm getting better pricing than most, but it's still a fabulous deal; plus it's someone I know and can feel comfortable with, while still knowing I'm going to get amazing pictures.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
