Floralytes vs. Glow Sticks

Hi Ladies!

 

I have had to rethink my original centerpiece scheme and I'm asking for your help!

 

Back story:

I had originally planned to order the tabletop tiki torches from OTC, bring them down to Jamaica, and have 2 per table at the reception. I had them reviewed and approved by the resort, and all was gravy. Until I thought about the oil. My stepdad, who works for TSA, informed me that I wouldn't be able to bring the oil down in checked luggage because it was considered a hazmat issue or something. I asked the WC at the resort if there was a place in Jamaica where we could purchase smokeless tiki torch oil, and he said that there wasn't. (Wha? It's an island, people. No tiki torches?) He suggested using kerosene, but I can only imagine the smell and black smoke that this would produce. So I scrapped the tiki torch idea.

 

I have decided to have wide, short bowls filled with pink and orange daliahs and spider mums. (I think.) I don't want to use candles because it seems to be very windy on the cliffs, but I was thinking about putting (submersible) floralytes in the bowls.

 

Here is my question. The floralytes seem a little expensive, so I'm considering using glow sticks. They are substantially cheaper, especially when purchased at the dollar store. I can get a pack of the little ones that people put in their mouths and somehow anchor them to the bottom of the bowl or the bottoms of the flower stems. In my experience, the glow sticks can last a good 8 hours, and they should be submersible.

Floralytes are great, especially the submersible ones. The problem with the glowsticks is they are small and narrow. I know the ones you are talking about. I am not sure how you want to anchor them inside the bowl - you may want to use rocks but this will cover most of the stick so I am not sure how much "glow" you'll get out of it. You may want to use more than one stick to make sure.

 

Another frugal idea is to use those plastic ice cubes that light up....I saw them here in Canada at the dollar store in the party section so you must have them in your dollar stores.

I think floralytes are a great idea. I'm having my reception on the beach & realized candles would be a bad idea with the wind and all. So I've decided to bring floralytes instead--should definitely look cool, easy to use, and no hassle with oil or candle wax or wind or whatever problems could possibly occur.

Floralytes are of great essence as because the floralytes provides the natural instints as compare to the glow sticks..

If you do use glow stick you could anchor them by putting in the glow sticks, then clear glass beads/marbles, and then the water, The glass wont float and it might hide the sticks a bit but let the light through. Love the idea, I may have to borrow it for my reception

Honestly, I would buy a few and see how they work! That is the only way you'll really be able to tell. Like you said, glow sticks are cheap

I would also buy both to try and see which one you will be happier with. It best to look at them for yourself before making a decision.
