Please know that I don't post reviews unless I feel VERY strongly about something. I warn all of the brides out there DO NOT USE KARLA CASILLAS!!! She went missing during my planning on several occasions and during the 3 months I tried to work with her  she rarely got back to me...

These were some of the "issues" that came up:

She hurt her neck and was gone for two weeks

Had back issues and was gone one week

Got some severe food poisoning and was gone for more than a month!

It was her birthday and she was gone for another week

Her family took a holiday and was gone for two weeks!

Although I understand that things come up it would sometimes take her 3 weeks to respond!! I am not a crazy bride I don't need a response in a day I think a week, however should be enough time to answer a question via email! When I finally got a hold of her and told her I would not be using her services  unless her communication improved she handed me off to her assistant for planing. Her assistant may be very nice and I understand people need to get trained but I paid for Karla I should get Karla's services right! I am sure that this might have been just a single experience but I can honestly say that it was worth the 500 deposit I gladly lost to get out of my contract with her.

Additionally when I would try to email or call her she was always "going to get back to me by monday, it was a crazy week!!"... two weeks later I would have to follow up again! It was more of a pain to speak with her than to plan the wedding myself. In the end I went with another planner and I'm REALLY glad I did!!

TRUST ME.. I will GLADLY send anyone the emails w/dates to prove that I am telling the truth! Save yourself some trouble and just go with another planner. There are so many planners out in cabo, I wish I had picked another in the begining. THANKS :/

Thanks for your post! Which planner did you go with? What were his/her prices like?

The reason I ask is because we are planning to get married at a hotel that includes a wedding coordinator with our package and we are wondering if it's worth the extra expense of a planner? We did get a quote from one planner, and her price was very high for what seemed to be minimal required work from her end given that the hotel provides us a coordinator.

Any advice you have would be so much appreciated! Thanks!

Hi,

Congratulations! I am using Katie Thompson of Dazzle 'em Event Design, http://dazzleem.com/pages/whatIoffer.html, and she's been awesome!!  My wedding is just over 4 weeks away, and Katie has been so responsive, I feel like I should have paid her twice what I paid.  Her rates are on the link I sent above.  I'm happy to answer any questions you might have.

Oh no! We had also paid a deposit for Karla and after getting fast feedback for the 1st week or 2, are also now waiting for over 2 weeks for a email reply to confirm our venue. When asking her to get us info re: venue prices and quotes, we only got half of the information we asked her to get and they came in very slow increments. And we are still waiting on the rest of the information so haven't been able to make a decision or finalize our location b/c now of course I've now contcted the resorts directly that we're considering and they are slow to respond as well- which is why we hired Karla in the first place. This is so frustrating!! I've heard of 2 names through this thread of other WCs brides have used-Signature weddings & another woman named Katie from bedazzle. Has anyone else used them? Thanks!!

Hi!

Thanks for your post. Where are you getting married? I'm still not sure if I want to hire an additional outside coordinator or go with the hotel's coordinator as she seems to be very competent. I'm just not sure it's worth the extra cost if I'm getting the vendors set up with the hotel's coordinator...I don't know how much added value an outside WC will bring vs how much she will cost.

Any advice? Thanks!

Hi, we are moving forward with a hotel that includes a wedding coordinator with the wedding package. Every time I've posted a question on here whether or not I need to hire an outside WC, I get no response. I'm beginning to think that the majority of people posting on here are the WCs themselves or their vendors saying how wonderful each other are, and noone wants to answer my questions. I spoke at length with a WC in Cabo who seemed to be very honest when she told me that if the hotel has an onsite coordinator that can offer you all the vendor services, etc that you need, then start by just working with that wedding coordinator and see how it goes. This particular WC could have sold me her services, but instead basically told me in so many words, not to waste my money hiring an additional WC

This WC I spoke with told me that most likely it's not worth the extra expense to hire an outside WC, unless you need someone for day of coordination. But she also told me that if you hire a WC just for day of, then that person will have very limited control over things because you've already hired your own vendors. Also, if you hire an outside coordinator then they push their own vendors on you and then mark up the prices and you will spend more money for probably the same services.

I highly recommend that you go for a visit to the area and meet with the places you are interested in to get a feeling as to how good the onsite WC is. So far, it has been very easy for us to work directly with the vendors that the hotel is recommending. If you want to have your ceremony and/or reception outside of a resort, then you definitely need a WC. I also think that it all boils down to how much detail and extra attention you want for your wedding. If you need every little thing just so and you want someone to hold your hand 24-7, then you probably want to hire an outside WC.

Thanks for your help. I agree with you completely on this site being a little slow to respond. I think you also have to watch for the vendors tooting eachother's horns.  What resort are you getting married at? The three I am looking at Casa del Mar, Hilton and Sheraton.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
