RIU Negril Private reception?

Recommended Posts

My fiance and I just went to book our private reception at Shadows which was originally $1000 the last time we checked. We were now told that it is $2000 to have a private reception. Has anyone NOT had a private reception that they can tell me about. Is it worth having the private reception?? Or do any of you that have HAD a private reception feel that it is a necessity? Thanks!

This is very interesting, Dionne sent me the price list just a couple weeks ago and it had $1000. I reserved Shadows but have not yet decided whether or not our dinner will be private. I do not think I would spend that much for it to be private. When is your wedding?

We were married at RIU Negril on Mar 4,2009 and we did not have a private reception.

It was at the Shadows restaurant and our group (29 ppl) had a section upstairs in the restaurant and it was great!! There was one other group upstairs but the way they had us set up, it was pretty much like we had the place to ourselves.

I haven't had a chance to write a full review yet from our big day but I would recommend that you save your money and go with the reception in the package. If you get Roy as a waiter, he was awesome and he serenaded me twice....that was a nice touch.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. I would love to share any info I can from our experience.... :)

I am getting married May 28th. I have about 46 people going to my wedding. How did you go about ordering your food? Did everyone get to select what they wanted off of a menu, or did the bride/groom select what type of food that they wanted to be served? My reception time is set for 6:30pm. How long did it take for your wedding to actually be served the food? Any details you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I have no idea what to expect and the wedding is about 6 weeks away. aaaahhhh!

Hi ashley173,

Sorry for taking so long to reply. There was a menu for our group to choose from - Chicken; shrimp or steak were the main meal options. Our reception was at 6:30-7pm and we were probably done by about 8:30-9pm or so. We were served everything and our guests were served the main course but had to go get their starter stuff - salad /soup etc from the buffet.; which was on the main floor. We had 2 servers with our group so there were no complaints about a long wait.

Everyone really enjoyed the meal and for dessert, we had wedding cake. We did the cake cutting and then they sliced it up for everyone. We chose the chocolate cake and it was good - nothing too fancy but it was tasty.

The TruColors photographer will take pics of the cake cutting but if there is a particular picture you want, make sure you tell them. The guy who did our cake pics had some cool ideas so some of those pix turned out better than the standard cake cutting shots.

Hope that helps....if I can answer anything else, let me know....

Hi Ashley,

i'm getting amrried at the RIU Negril on August 14th. when i asked Dionne about a private reception she originally told me it would be $500 for 2 hours and $1000 for 4 hours. when i confirmed what i wanted she told me the prices increased too. i told her what she originally quoted me and she said she will honor that since that is what she mentioned first. i suggest if you really want that private reception - push for the originally quoted price. and if you have the email where she quoted you a $1000 for 4 hours - i would send it to her again. that's what i did to her and she gave in. they cannot switch up the price on you whenever they want. they have to honor the price they originally quoted.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
