Kidnappings in Mexico /riveria mayan

The problems with the drug cartels and violence are not new. These problems have been going on for years!!! Warnings have been issued due to the escalated activity and violence along the border towns in a short amount of time. It seemed like once the media announced this, everyone decided that all of Mexico isn't safe.

Tourism is one of their main sources of income and it employs many citizens, I am sure they will be more vigilent in the tourist areas.

I know. I think its all a little bit extreme. My Soon to Be "mother in law" told me all this stuff & got me worried. I told her she was over reacting but then she got me thinking so i figured i would ask. Thank you all so much for making me feel 100% better about all of this.

My JW Marriot future Bride just told me about all this negative advertisement that she is hearing in Florida about Cancun and sourranding areas.

I think it is just a "potilic issue" and can be "normal" that the USA is trying to keep the money expenses inside their country instead of expending money somewhere else.

However my only suggestion will be for everybody to PLEASE USE the transportation for the tourism and AVOID using the locals transportation.

If your hotel is on the highway please avoid trying to cross the highways or walk after midnight by yourself in dark streets... there are always bad people everywhere... and

if you do not know the country, the language or the people do not try to use the local facilities just for save some dollars!!!

These rumors/stories remind me of those chain letters I get from people which can easily be debunked by snopes.com 100% of the time.

Always ask for a legit SOURCE before listening to these outrageous stories. Get the truth/facts before making a decision or stating an opinion.

Hi,

This was on Fox News last night as well. I think it is good to be smart and informed, not scared:

FOXNews.com - ATF warns spring breakers against Mexico travel - Local News | News Articles | National News | US News

U.S. State Department Issues Travel Alert for Mexico - Presidential Politics | Political News - FOXNews.com

The U.S. State Department has renewed a travel advisory warning Americans about an increase in violence along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The alert does not recommend staying away from the country or any particular part of it, but advises American to stay away from prostitution and drug-dealing areas.

It recommends visiting only legitimate business and tourist areas.

The alert issued Friday says violent crime is particularly worrisome along the U.S.-Mexico border, where automatic weapons and grenades have been used in clashes between police and drug traffickers.

More than 6,000 people were killed in drug violence in Mexico last year.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
