Anyone have the just the 2 of you for the wedding???

Recommended Posts

I like #2 as well! :) It's SO pretty!

I didn't do a garter, but I agree that you can still throw in as much of those traditional aspects of a big wedding. Hey - if you have to stand and throw it over the balcony onto the beach go for it! It's all about making the day yours.

I actually bought a veil and paid to have it altered just perfectly. When I got to the resort and had a hair trial, she put it on and I just wasn't feeling it. I have seen so many beautiful brides get married on the beach with all different veils, but I say try one on and if it feels right go for it, if not, don't do it. I decided the day of my wedding to not wear my veil, and opted for a silk flower in my hair instead and I was SO happy!

It is a beautiful hotel, the grounds are just gorgeous. The Dominican Rep. is a beautiful country and I am sure you'll have no problems finding someone to help you get ready (I am from there so that's why I'm saying it lol) and I am sure you'll also have a great time..
Thanks!! I can't wait! Oh, and don't worry too much about your dress. I managed to find and buy mine off the rack in just over an hour at David's Bridal. No alterations required other than a bustle (although I hear that's rare)which I still have to find a tailor to do for me. Here's a link to my dress and another one that a friend of mine got for her wedding in Mexico and hers didn't have to be altered either.

Mine: David's Bridal - Beaded lace trumpet with godet inserts at skirt hem and charmeuse sash.

Friend's: David's Bridal - Chiffon gown with pleated bust, empire waist, and tie back.

Good luck and let us know when you find your dress!!

I wasn't planning to wear a garter, but love the Yankees "surprise" idea! ;-) I'm doing a flower in my hair instead of a veil too.

I do still have to find a dress for dinner the night of our wedding and something to wear underneath that for our wedding night ... anyone have any suggestions on where I might find a non-knit, above the knee, cream or white strapless dress? I've been looking everywhere and can't seem to find anything. :-(

Thanks!

I won't be wearing a veil. I have seen brides wear just a hair flower and I really like it. I just need to find one. I hadn't thought about a garter but now I think it's a great idea for the weddding night. So, I'm thinking about getting one.

futurerana, the same thing happened to me. Another bride gave me the idea...I think it's a cute one and since he's a super die hard Yankees fan, I know he will def appreciate it! I can already see his face!

I'm thinking of going the DIY route as I've looked on ebay and other places online and the MLB ones are going for no less than $15 not including shipping. From what I estimate, I'd spend like $6 on the materials. And, it'd be a great keepsake.

Lori, have you checked out bluefly, ebay, or nordstrom? I'm sure you can find something there & you can search by color.

I am not wearing a veil either, I just want to wear a flower in my hair. Nice and simple and my dress doesn't need any embellishing.

  • 4 weeks later...

We are having a "just the 2 of us" wedding in Jamaica, June 1st 2010!!

We knew we wouldn't be getting much $$ from our families, so we decided if we were going to be paying for it we might as well have fun with it, and not have to deal with all the stress and expenses of a "traditional wedding"

Your friend picked the same dress I did! I went to DB and was there for 2 hours and walked out with my dress. I loved it!! it was the first one I tried and it fit me perfectly. The sales lady wasn't too good as she kept bringing me sizes that I knew would be too big (she was new but she was nice but not too knowledgeable). I tried 3 more but this was the one. The one I got fit me so good that I don't even need to do alterations on it!!smile72.gif I will try to post pics of me in it, it;s just that I still haven't figured out how to work this photobucket thing.

That was exactly our thought; after all, it's our wedding. It hasn't been easy; our friends and family gave us a very hard time! Most have gotten used to the idea now, but we still get the guilt trip from my mom. We decided to have a short, informal vow renewal at our AHR when we get back. They seem to be buying into the idea...

Good to know we are not alone in this! We are having just us.. but we are bringing our best friends who are a couple to be our witnesses..(and enjoy a weeklong holiday with us!) Does anyone have their day all planned out yet? I'm not really sure what we are going to do... My photographer suggested we take pics of us girls getting ready.. the boys getting ready... then take me and FI seeing eachother for the first time (before the wedding.. the wedding is way later in the day and he said we could get lots of great shots during the day around the resort) get some of us 2, some of the 4 of us etc.. take a bit of a break have so drinks.. then have the wedding.. more pics.. dinner on the beach.. then the photog says we should take some cool night shots.. then I'm not too sure?? What is everyone else doing?? Any ideas?! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
