Caves versus Tensing Pen or somewhere else?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am new and am hoping to get married just the two of us at either Tensing Pen or the Caves or wherever in Negril, Jamaica. Still haven't made a complete decision or booked and am still trying to convince fiance that we really deserve something this special...After all we are saving money not having a big wedding.

My main reason for joining this forum is because it will be just the two of us and I am not sure how that will work. All the pictures info I have seen about destination weddings seem to be ones with lots of guests. I was concerned that it would be awkward and wondering how dressy I should and could get without it being ridiculous. I like the "destination dresses" but they still seem like they may be a little too formal still. Though I would love it. And what about a veil. And feedback on this or pictures even would be awesome. My fiance also is wondering and I would like to relay info and still be honest..It would be easier to convince him if this is common...I am getting great freedback on trip advisor too but figured since this is a "wedding forum" i might get even more feedback. I appreciate all the help. I don't know anyone who has done this and have always dreamed about it. Thanks so much.

I didn't stay at either resort, but have seen both of them and they are beautiful!

Since it will only be the 2 of you, it's all the more reason to go all out! There are several other brides that have only been the ones there. Search for threads by Lilpaisley and JustUsTwo. You can also search for Tensing Pen, Rockhouse, etc. to get specific hotel information.

I think you need to be comfortable in your attire. My dress was formal, and not what most people would think of for a beach wedding. I couldn't imagine getting married in anything different. I tried on a few 'destination' dresses and I didn't feel bridal. I wanted my wedding day to feel specail, not like i was just wearing a white dress.

It also depneds on your budget. Both hotels are gorgeous-but The Caves is a little more than Tensing Pen.

There is no rule that you need to be in a sundress and flip flops for a beach wedding. Like pp said, I have seen a formal (tuxes) wedding on a beach...do what makes you happy. Especially since it will be the 2 of you-enjoy every minute of it.

Just the two of you will be fine as long as that's what you bot want. The dress is a decision I am basing on what I will be comfortable in and I of course it will look nice, but I never wanted the big ball gown princess type dress myself, so whatever you like and feel comfortable in will work.

  • 1 month later...

I think you should dress in what you've always wanted to wear. Also, both of these places are on the cliffs, not sandy beach, which is why we are going with formal. I'm in a very nice dress/veil/heels, not flip flops. A DW dress is what you want it to be! Oh, and yes I might be a tad hot, but I didn't care. I will look at my pictures for the rest of my life and want to make sure it all looked the way I always wanted.

GL!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
