Thanks for all of the reviews...and WOW I totally want to do this as well. I'm SOLD!! I only have one question though, what happens if it starts to rain? Or what if it's raining all day on your wedding day? Do they accept cancellations? Or would my guests just be stuck on the lower deck the entire night?

Hi Mel2010,

I don't know if you have your question answered already or not...but I actually just spoke with Flori on the phone and she sent me the 2012 pricing. I asked her about the weather too and she said they have cover that can be pulled over the main floor if it rains. The only time they will cancel is in the case of a tropical storm or hurricane. If that happens then they will push it to the next day. I didn't ask about cancellations.

For those of you who have done this for your reception I have a few questions. Or if you just know! :)

1. Did you bring a cake from your resort or order one thru La Barcaza?

2. Did you tell your guests to bring a change of clothes for the water piece?

3. Was it chilly at all on the water? And if so, did you tell your guests to wear a light jacket or anything?

4. Did you bring favors on board and if so, any good ideas that ties into the boat?

Thanks for any help!!!!!!

1. Did you bring a cake from your resort or order one thru La Barcaza? Since our cake was included in the wedding package fro our resort, we had it boxed and took it with us on the bus.  We told our wedding coordinator ahead of time that this was our intention and they were great about it!

2. Did you tell your guests to bring a change of clothes for the water piece? We let our guests know that there would be an opportunity to take a dip if they chose, and to bring a change with them.

3. Was it chilly at all on the water? And if so, did you tell your guests to wear a light jacket or anything?  Honestly, it really wasn't for us, but we were also there July 1st (maybe this made a difference?).  The breeze felt good!

4. Did you bring favors on board and if so, any good ideas that ties into the boat?  Ok so here was something that I wish I had known.  We didn't know that the boat would provide a centrepiece on the tables.  I'm not sure if they did this because we only had a couple big tables, so perhaps check with Flori ahead of time.  We brought our own down with us to Dominican, and this was actually completely unnecessary!  The centrepieces they had on the tables were sunken orchids, which was GORGEOUS!  We brought our chair sashes with us and all of the girls quickly tied them on together.  You can give those things to Flori when you meet her at your resort, but since we were using them at our ceremony, we couldn't hand them over.  We also brought table runners, but we really didn't need them.  In fact, it kind of blew around when we were cruising along, so maybe don't have them unless you are dead set on having them :)  We didn't use white tablecloths, since we wanted a very casual feel!  To be honest, the boat is gorgeous and the atmosphere is fantastic, I don't think extra deco is necessary.... but like I said, if you really want it, make sure that things you use are tied down ;)

Thanks for any help!!!!!!

So I think my fiancé and I are going to use La Barcaza. We are getting married at the Melia in January. Just wondering if you ladies booked directly through the boat or the resort? I got prices from the resort and they are about $25.00 per person more then the rates I got back from La Barcaza. If anyone could help me out that would be great!

Hello, I used barcaza as a thank you to our guests at the end of march. we had the best time! the boat is the best looking one there! our group loved the top lounge area until we got the dance party started. the dj was amazing and kept us dancing the whole time. we had fruit and sandwiches-some better than others but the food was gone by the time we got back. drinks were great and free flowing. we did rum and beer and let guests know before hand if they wanted anything else it would be cash bar. daniel was great and i would highly recommend barcaza!

My fiancé and I are getting married at the OGX near Playa Del Carmen, we are planning to book a catamaran with Fat Cat Tours. Has anyone else used them before? It's sounds like a great deal, with a private catamaran it includes open bar and a box lunch...they stop for snorkelling, can do some fishing and swimming. We figure its a good activity for our young and older guests.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
