Anyone quitting smoking?

DRB

Recommended Posts

I put this post under beauty since I'm doing this primarily for my appearance, I know it should be for my overall health but whatever works right?

So I currently trying to quit smoking (again, *sigh*), is anyone else trying to do the same or have you quit recently? I know that quitting and planning a wedding won't be easy (not that there is ever an easy time to quit) so I just wanted to see if anyone else wanted to start some type of a bridal support network. Or if anyone has quit and has advice that would be great!

WOW......I gave up smoking for lent.....and I am kind of a closet smoker so it's kind of hard b/c I don't want to call people and say HEY I QUIT SMOKING HELP when not very many people even knew I smoked in the first place! So I am letting my secret out LOL!!

Anyways I gave it up last Wednesday cold turkey and it has been VERY hard......Yesterday finally I was like okay, I just have to have one, so I went out and lit one up and it tasted SO DISGUSTING!!! I was so disappointed in myself for cheating especially because it was for lent but then I was proud b/c I didn't like it at all! So now I feel like I have been "cured" LOL! I still want one but I know it will be gross - does that make any sense at all? Anyways I totally know how hard it is - and I'm glad you guys know exactly what I mean now......

I finally quit in July after 10 years of smoking! I too, was a bit of a closet smoker, and my FI had quit about 9 months before me so it gave me more of an incentive. I had tried to quit many times before but would feel like such a failure when I would light up again!! I read the book "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" by Allan Carr a few times and that really helped me. I also joined the Canadian Cancer Society's online group for quitting smoking. They would send me inspirational emails and provide me with support by helping me remember my reasons for quitting. It's awesome to know you're not alone in the battle. I wish you all the best! I was so damn proud of myself when I knew I had beat it! The biggest thing for me was the realization that I didn't need to smoke and was not missing out on anything by giving it up, but gaining a new life. It's tough but it can be done!

Ok I'm off my soap-box now LOL blush2.gif

I am a smoker and I think I'm going to follow this thread and use you ladies as inspiration to quit. It's not that I don't want to, but I am also trying to lose weight for the wedding and I tend to "snack" more when I'm trying to quit smoking, so I'm definitely putting it off. But, maybe reading all of your posts will change my mind and give me the courage to try both at the same time - really that's what I'm hoping for lol.

This is my exact problem, I feel like I am "missing something"! WIERD I know. I just have been scaring myself into not doing it basically. Cancer runs in my family, not lung cancer but I just keep telling myself that I am basically giving myself an early death when I smoke. Morbid I realize but it is working HA! Anyways I also have been eating everything in sight but I am not worrying about it yet.........

It is so hard to quit. You end up coming up with all of these rationalizations for yourself. The last time that I quit my FI and I began smoking again when we went out with friends and were drinking. We began looking for excuses to go out when we usually don't so that we could justify our smoking. We finally decided to set a quit date again when we realized that my 50 year old mother and her 52 year old bf are in WAY better shape than us! I found that chewing nicorette really helped with snacking as I have the same problem Nikki.

Wow, this is a great thread!! I am a smoker but do plan on soon setting a quit date. I can so relate to everything that is being said....missing out on something....trying to lose weight for the wedding...having an excuse like drinking....!

I quit last year for 6 months and felt better than I have in the last 10 years, I actually said I was never going to be a "smoker" again. But of course thought is was ok to have a cig when I was out with friends and it just continued from there.

Great for you who are quitting right now, it is so hard, and I honestly feel like something is missing so it is a good idea to replace it with something else (a hobby/gym). I WILL try to quit again soon, it's all about setting the date. Good luck ladies:)

I quit when I was preggo (duh) but in my head it wasn't really "quitting" I knew I could someday have another one......and it was easier actually b/c it wasn't just me that it was affecting anymore. But then once my little guy turned 6 months old and DH and I went out for a nice romantic evening I thought I'd have just one...blah blah blah......so here I am not pregnant and trying to quit just for me LOL!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
