CANADIAN OOT BAG info...where to shop!

Recommended Posts

I think the duty is based on the cost/value of the stuff - I'm not sure what the limit is but I know for smaller/cheaper items I wasn't charged duty but I definitely was on my bags and towels (which I ordered a lot of and therefore the total cost was high).  Not 100% sure though!

I love the idea of mini cocktail shakers! thanks for sharing!

I received my mini stainless steel cocktail shakers yesterday!!! I ordered 15 of them from Beaucoup (wedding favor website). They are in California but ship to Canada. I also ordered 24 cocktail infusions (lavendar citrus, 8 per box).. the total with shipping came to 139$. UPS delivered them and I had to pay 20$ duty fees to the UPS guy.. so all that for 160$. Not too bad considering I checked everywhere online for mini cocktail shakers and they were AT LEAST 8$ each plus a ridiculous price for shipping so I'm happy happy!

I'm going to guy some ribbon and little cardstock to make name labels for each shaker.

I'll probably write my planning thread mid-June so I'll post the link here when the time comes so you can all check out the pics!

Ladies - please check eBay for wedding stuff before buying it on those wedding favor websites.

I am a noob.. I have been researching my DW for only a couple of months now.. but I am trying to get a lot of the costs out of the way before the actual trip takes place (it's a cruise ship wedding) as I know there will be a lot of additional costs at that time and I don't want to be scrambling looking for wedding favors or bridesmaid gifts, etc.

I have been unpleasantly surprised by the wedding favor websites that won't ship to Canada, or will charge more for duties and shipping then the actual items are worth. I have been able to score amazing deals on ebay.ca, and pay the shipping charges that you see upfront.

We have all scored deals like with the key card/tip holders on ebay, but there's so much more! Most of the wedding favors you see on the websites are on ebay and for drastically lower prices then on the sites! And if you look for the right ebay sellers, they will adjust the amount  of items as you need them (for example, someone selling 50 favors can adjust the lot to sell you more or less, say if you needed only 35, or if you needed 70, etc).

To give you an example, I searched cruise ship wedding favors trying to find something 'cruise ship-pie'. I found this cute magnet of a boat wheel steering thingy: http://www.cruisenfavors.com/ourcoissetst.html -  - it's

it's cute and all, but $11.50 for one? While I could probably find it cheaper on other sites, I stumbled across it on ebay doing another 'cruise wedding' search I found them on ebay in sold in lots, for example this is a lot of 24 and dividing up the price it would cost me $1.83 for one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130334125136&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Another thing I've been looking out for is flasks.. my FI wants to get these for at least a couple of his groomsmen very much.. and they're frigging expensive on every site even when they go on sale and then to personalize them, whew.. I went to Things Engraved and they're like 40 bucks a set there too.. but ong do a search on ebay and you'll find every color, size, design, free personalization, the whole works. These pink flasks will be perfect for my BM's http://cgi.ebay.ca/Pink-Flask-Personalized-Groomsmen-Bridesmaid-Gifts-0D6-/140543636050?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20b90db252 and I wasn't even planning on getting them flasks until I found better prices I could get for them. And I'm only at the beginning of my flask search.

Just search like 'wedding favor lot' or if you want more specifics search 'starfish wedding favor lot' or 'flip flop wedding favor lot', just for example... i'm glad to see that most of what I can't get because I don't have an american address is available on ebay, where sellers are happy to ship to Canada (well most of the time)... happy hunting!

I have to agree that ebay has been amazing for me. Just wanted to share that I have gotten tylenol and pepo individual packs in a box of 25 on ebay for great prices. I was having a really hard finding those items at a reasonable price and reasonable shipping and found both on ebay from good sellers and got them in the mail very quickly!

OMG I never even thought to look for things like this on eBay, I just figured medication wasn't allowed or something, this is a fabulous tip! This is so where I'm going to order my immodium packets from. I have never been this psyched about immodium. But since a lot of ppl commented the pain meds were the most used item in their kits I'm going to go with the little tubes (10 packs) of advil as opposed to a 2 pack packet... Thanks kya101!

was the pepto seller and was wa

The tylenol seller was mikewholesale1  and the pepto seller was nastradom , I  also provided the links for each one below. The only thing I had to wait and watch for was the expiry date, most are all good, but there were a few that expired a month before my wedding so I had to watch for different ones. (both of the ones are good below after 2012) I watched ebay for a few awhile before I found good deals. Good luck!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
