That is so funny b/c all of my relatives are saying how dangerous it is in Cancun and we live about 3.5 hrs drive from Juarez.

I just got back last night from Riviera Maya to check out the resort for our wedding... We did see heavier police forces along the highway, but we were fine... the Canadians kept telling us the U.S. media was scaring us... we met many Canadians, many Europeans, and a small handful of Americans who were also told they were crazy by various people to visit Mexico. I do believe that people should take caution, like, do not travel alone on roads at night... (but I wouldn't do that in the bad cities where I live now!)... Something we need to remember, as that article stated, is that the tourism industry keeps this area of Mexico alive... There are thousands of workers who work at the resorts, hundreds of drivers from the airport... they depend on the tourism money... I also spoke to some of the people who live there (my Spanish skills were right on, all came flooding back, so weird!!!) They said it is bad by the U.S. border, and I even joked that we should not be "estupido" and be "cuidado" in what we do... so, we were sad to come home!!! So nice!!!

Yeah, I agree....There is TONS of crime in the U.S.-not to mention gangs, etc. and people should realize that there is violence everywhere--I am frustrated. If some of my guests use this as an excuse I really don't care b/c it will be more fun without them. I don't want worry warts dictating what we should do in Mexico!!! I am planning on going to town in Playa and going to Cozumel. =)

Good for you! You should enjoy your wedding and honeymoon without hearing complaints from people. I think that people are uncomfortable b/c it is a foreign country and most do not know the language. Now if they start abducting tourist maybe we will all have something to worry about.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
