At home reception

I'm glad you all are posting about this! I'm actually having an at home reception and legal ceremony before the DW. Part of this is so we didn't have to bother with the blood test in Mexico, and also because we don't want people who can't come to Mexico to feel like they are missing out. This being said, we are putting more effort and money into the Mexico wedding. For the AHR, we are having an evening ceremony, we rented a hall and it will take place there. We want to have hors d'oeuvres served during our pictures and we are getting a DJ, professional photographer, etc. The ceremony will start at 7:30 then we will party all night. We're going to serve gourmet pizzas around midnight.

One thing that is important for me is to not feel like we are doing everything twice - I want Mexico to be really special and do all the special stuff once - father walking me down the isle, first dance, parents speeches, etc. But we still want to make the AHR feel like a wedding and special for those who are only attending that event.

Does anyone have any original ideas about how we can organize it so it's different than your typical traditional wedding? So far, we are thinking no head table since there's no dinner, I'm walking down the isle alone, very quick speeches (only 1 on each side, and we will give a quick one too).

Any advice, ideas, input would be so appreciated!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
