What?!?!?

I feel comfortable enough with my photographer that I would totally inform her of the situation ..... especially if you are planning to take your business elsewhere, meaning your photographer will also come with you, if the RIU is unwilling to stay true to their word.

I can understand why you'd be hesitant though, especially when they know his info.

I am not booking anything with the Riu until I see how this gets resolved. The photographer is the only thing I really have for my wedding. She is from Canada and travelling with us to Cabo so essentially she is a guest as well but I don't want to take chances either.......

The same thing happened to me! My mom and I went to meet with her last year and she assured us that it was totally okay to bring in our own florist, photographer and mariachi... then i emailed her to give her all the info and she responded the same way she did to you. So Frustrating!! In a way, they're forcing you to pay more to use their vendors b/c they're marked up. I even asked if there was any room for negotiation and the response was of course, NO. ugh!

Keep me posted, i'll also keep everyone posted on what we get worked out. Our wedding is in 6 weeks and we're stressing out a little.

OMG HpyBride...I'm so sorry that you are going through this too. Have you paid any deposits towards your other vendors that you are going to lose out on? 6 weeks!!!! I can feel how frustrated you must be with this. Good luck, and please keep me updated!

Hi Lisa.

It is so sad what's happening to you, unfortunately, that's got RIU writting all over it.

I used to work with them for almost 2 years, and one thing I learned in that time is that, if they change their mind about something, they won't change it back. Many times I had to suck it all up and deliver bad news to brides that had other things planned, just like you this days.

Someone (Can't remember who), said that they were "flaky" about somethings, believe, they're not when it's for their benefit (like this situation). But like I said before, if they told you that they won't let you bring your own photographer, they won't.

They will negotiate with you, that he can come and take your pictures, BUT, and this is a huge BUT, you would still have to pay for the photographer that is included in the package, because (this is funny), the package is like it is and they can't brake it, because then it wouldn't be a package.

They told me to say that once, so, I might know a bit.

Anyways, I know you'll resolve this issue.

Best Wishes

Well, it's settled. We stood our ground. Contacted Erika's manager and then went to corporate. When we gave them the names of two other couples who have been allowed to bring Cabo Vendors for their weddings there in Jan and Feb of this year, I think it was the straw that broke the camel's back. Erika emailed me back that after reviewing our situation with the manager they decided to me an exception for us only this once and let in our photographer/videographer. I'm still on the wary side because I felt this situation was handled terribly but I'm just happy that we got what we wanted and FOUGHT for! woohoo!!!!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
