My Wedding Review of Iberostar Grand:

Hello all, just got back from my wedding at Iberostar Grand and it was AMAZING!!!  You guys have nothing to worry about!!

I got married on Saturday, July 14th and had 46 people there including 6 kids.   We had guest at mostly the Grand and Suites which wasn't a problem, we just walked over to the suites pool, which is right next to the grand (short walk on beach).

Wednesday:

We arrived at around 3:00 to our beautiful room and were upgraded from Ocean View to Ocean Front (but I like Ocean View more).  We met our butler right away and told us we could have anything we wanted in the room (liquer wise).  At about 5:00 we met with Janielle and she had everything I wanted written down and I was able to make some last minute changes.  She showed us all of the possible locations for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception.  I felt much more at ease after I met with her.

Thursday:

Most of my guest arrived this day.  A week before I arrived I emailed the guest relations dept about having a group dinner.  Since I had guests staying at all three resorts, I decided to arrange a dinner for 43 people at the Hibachi restaurant in Rose Hall Beach.  we were able to get a 9:00 reservation.  The food was great and everyone had a good time.

Most of our guest were tired but some of us went to the Mango Walk disco afterwards, guests from all 3 resorts could go there.

We also met with Rev. Gordon in the afternoon.  He told us he was unable to do our wedding and gave us another minister, I think his name was Robinson or something like that.

Friday:    We had a rehearsal, run through in the afternoon which went well.  We had a bonfire on Friday night from 8-10pm which was amazing.  We had a DJ who played great dance music and everyone's requests.  We also had a fire eater, which everyone loved.  It was a lot of fun!!  we had an open bar set up on the beach for our guests.  It was one of our guests birthdays so we had a cake also for her.  I made t-shirts for all of my guests to wear that night also for a group picture.  Definitely one of the highlights of the week.

Saturday:  Wedding Day  - We all went to the spa at around 12:00 for up do's and makeup.  All resorts use the same spa also.  I had a trial done back home and brought a picture with me.  they also had tons of pics to choose from.  The girls in the salon do amazing hair, everyone's came out beautiful.  We also got our make up done there and they did a great job, it lasted all night.

We got back to our rooms at around 3:00 and it had been pouring rain for 3 hours so I was very nervous.  Luckily it stopped raining at around 3:30 and the ceremony was able to take place outside.  My photographer, Stacey Clarke, arrived and took pictures of us getting ready.  She was great!!  Our ceremony was to start at 5:00.  I had made a CD of songs to play as everyone was getting seated.  then the ceremony started.  James and I had put the whole ceremony together, we used a script we found on this site and edited it to fit us (let me know if any of you want to see it).  The reverend followed the script word for word and did everything we had wanted.  It was beautiful.

After the ceremony we had a champagne toast and then our guests went off to the coctail hour.  the bridal party stayed to take pictures.  We only made the last five minutes of our cocktail hour unfortunately.  the coctail hour was on a platform overlooking the beach.  We had a steel drum band who were awesome and used the Jamaican menu for our hors d'oeuvres.  At 7:00 we had the reception in the Port Maria Restaurant (which is the beach cafe during the day).  they did the place up beautiful.  We used one of the buffet menus and the food was delicious.  We did the tradition wedding introduction entrance and the DJ did all of the M Cing.  We did all of our special dances right away and then did dinner and cake.  We then danced the night away, I paid for the extra hour of the reception.  We had a 3 tier cake which was delicious.

700  When we got back to the room the butler had decorated our room with rose petals, candles, and a fancy bubble bath.  We also had champagne and chocolate covered strawberries.  The butlers had surprises for us in our room most nights, they were great!!  Janielle and her assistant were there the whole reception and were great the whole time we were there.

Sunday:  We did a trash the dress with our photographer, which was great I highly recommend!!  I wore a different dress. Can't wait to see the pics!   Janielle checked on us and brought us all of our decorations.

Tuesday:  We did a couple's massage which was awesome.  And then we had a private dinner on the beach.  Unfortunately it was extremely windy that night but we made the best of it.  The food was amazing.

Overall the week was awesome!!  Nothing major went wrong and Janielle and her assistant were great.  All of you future brides have nothing to worry about!  My only reccommendation is BUG SPRAY!!  the mosquitos are out of control!!!!!!!!  Enjoy your planning and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  I would be glad to help!

Kfarkas, I never received an actual price list from Tai Flora. I didnt like the free bouquets included so they sent me a variety of pictures to choose from, then they gave me a quote based off the bouquet I chose. Once you specify the type of decorations you want, they will give you a price based on that. For example: I asked for tiki torches and was given a quote of $8 each. Then I sent a picture of a centerpiece I liked and was quoted $55 for a hurricane glass with shells and water and a floating candle, $95 to add a fish. I ended up packing my own centerpeices and table decor, everyone loved them and it only cost me $100 for everything.<<<<<<<resourceful person with creative friends ;)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
