Leah- what wedding package did you choose?! I am trying to do my budget and we were figuring well over 10,000 for 100 people, but I may be doing my numbers incorrectly. Also did you ladies recieve a free upgrade of your rooms at all... I am so sorry for all of your headaches with Janeille, hopefully she either shapes up or is gone by my wedding!

This is the kind of BS I'm talking about. She quotes me and Susan $1,000 extra dollars for 1 hour PLUS they came and cut off my music at 10. Yet you got to party until 11:30. I paid for 100 people! With all their extra fees it came to over $10,000! Plus all the people i brought to the hotel who paid over $500 per night just to stay at the Grand. And I'm very bitter about how the day played out, their lack of organization, and lack of communication.

LOL! Yes $250 is freaking NUTS!!! WTF! We ended up tipping the band, bartenders, dj, waitstaff, and Janielle (though I reduced hers after the whole decoration ordeal).

OMG - I just e-mailed the resort asking why I was charged over $1,000 for the extra hour and you got yours extended until 11:30 with no issues and their exact response was:

"The statement you made regarding Shannon's reception is an absolute fabrication. A reception after 11:00pm has never been done. Shannon's reception ended at 10:03pm exactly. We apologize if you think you were treated unfairly as well as any misconception that you may have had due to this fabrication."

WTF!!! Seriously?

I apologize for the headache! I did not have a watch on so exact times I am not sure sure of what time it was when i walked out of Port Maria but I know what time I got to my room and you saw me on the way there. I do not think it works in our favor when we attempt to compare situations. I have learn when approaching the staff to address my situation only because they do not take too well to bringing up others. I am sure if we compared wedding bills from weddings across the past year there would be many differences, though as we all know there is not any flat out price.

Sorry Shannon...I really didn't want to throw your name or situation out there but that was the last straw for me. I'm sure it did end after 11 but we all know they will never admit to it. I figured I might as well at least try to see if I could get my money back but of course, that won't happen. I am just going to let it go and move on knowing that everyone had a great time regardless. Sorry for all of this craziness lol.

I had the "free" package, which is a joke and certainly not free.  My total of approximately $10,000 only included the ceremony set-up and reception, and miscellaneous fees.  It did NOT include the DJ, photographer, flowers, decorations, etc.  And trust me I'm frugal!

I did receive a room upgrade.  We booked a garden view and at check-in I asked for the upgrade that's supposed to be included with the package and with my group booking.  The employee was uncertain and said "I don't know. I'll have to check.  Go have lunch and come back."  When we came back she said we were in an Ocean Front!  I told my travel agent and she said she already knew and it was a surprise, so I think she helped to arrange it.  The Ocean Front rooms are nice, but if you're above the 4th floor, the balconies are 1/2 the size.  Also, here's a tip: building 5 is WAY better than building 6.  I had several guests switched rooms because they hated building 6.

But as part of the package we were supposed to get a room for the groom on the wedding night and this never happened.  Susan, Shannon: did your groom get his own room?  We weren't too concerned to ask for this because I heard the Grand was completely sold out on Saturday night.  One of my guests who arrived on Saturday was put at the Suites for 1 night because there were no rooms at the Grand.

I certainly did not tip Janielle!  A few of my guests tipped the servers.  And our DJ was a family member.  Susan, sorry to hear about the Grand's response to the extra charges but I'm not surprised!  It's a typical response.  But she pretty much called you and your informant a liar, which is just rude.

Also, I want to add that we were missing some decorations as well.  Not only did we not get things back but the day after the wedding I saw several female security guards carrying around my extra folding sandlewood fans that I asked the hotel to place on the chairs at the ceremony!  I know I brought extra (I purchased 100 and had 85+ guests).  I should have left the extras in the room, but I was in a hurry to deliver all of my decorations.  I just let it go, but I was in shock at first.

No worries Susan, I completely understand! All that matter is we all had fun in the end!! cheers.gif

Yes, Leah my husband had a separate room the night before the wedding.

We did receive an upgrade as well. Like Leah said building 5 is better. Our upgraded room was in building 6 and we requested to switch. Ocean front and Ocean view (direct view of the ocean/front facing rooms) 3rd and up seemed to have smaller balconies (though still Huge). The higher floors all have Ocean view 3rd and up, though it may not be directly on, you can still see the ocean. If you book a standard suite, and request a high floor, you have a view of the ocean and pool with large balcony, which is even better.

For future Brides, if you can swing getting the Presidental Suite, I highly reccommend it! It was absolutely AMAZING!!! It was a nice touch to finish out our week there, as the last night we were able to have a final goodbye party with all of our guests. (I will include pictures in review)

I am getting married on July 15, 2012 at the Iberostar Grand Rose Hall and after reading some of your reviews I am completely nervous. We will only have 28 guests;therefore, we will not have a private reception, but I am still getting nervous. Did your wedding not turn out the way you wanted? Did you guests at least enjoy the resort?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
