RSVP'ing

Hi ladies,

 

My wedding is set for April 24, 2010. I am sending out my save the dates this weekend and am planning on sending out my invites at the end of August or beginning of September. I would like all guest to rsvp no later than October 1st as I am pretty sure everyone needs to book their travel with the TA by October 15th anyway. Is this too soon my wedding is 6 months after the rsvp date.

I don't think it's too soon. I'm sending out my invites in a few weeks and I'm asking for RSVP's by May 1 for my Oct 22 wedding. I think it just kinda forces people to make a decision about whether they're coming because I can't have people booking at the last minute (unless they RSVP yes by May 1 but wait to book).

People never do right with RSVPing! I had 2 friends do DW and people who booked like a few weeks before. Only thing I can suggest is that you strongly enforce them to RSVP because you have to book TA, but it's always that one, so good luck. The people that I anticipate attending I am going to send out information to them in a month or so and then my STD aren't going out to a month or so later and the only people receiving an invitation are those who have booked TA by this time next year. I think it's a waist to send an invitation to people you know aren't coming, my STD will serve to give me an idea of who may be coming cause I know some who just aren't or can't.

Thanks. I am expecting about 30-40 people to attend but am inviting 85. I would like everyone to rsvp asap, first to book their travel and second if more people attend then expected, I have some extra months to save up as I am trying to not use any credit cards.

One thing I would caution you about: You are sending them so early that people may not feel a sense of unrgency to repsond on time. That's just my two cents. We have a lot of friends that didn't commit until 2 months before we are set to leave, and there are still a few up in the air. Overall, I've been really pleased with the response. We set a 2/15 deadline for our 5/1 wedding, and we've receive most cards back.

i found with mine that very few people booked without me prodding them. i guess you can say they RSVPed cuz i knew generally who was coming and who wasn't. but only a few booked themselves with my TA. it wasn't until i started asking people to put a deposit down in january for our may wedding that people started booking.

 

although i didn't set a hard deadline in the invite i said that space was limited but nobody took it seriously. people like to do things last minute. for our trip it has to be fully paid 60 days before we leave. that's the only deadline everyone has.

 

guess it depends what you consider RSVPing. i considered putting a deposit on the trip or telling me no as an RSVP. i wasn't counting ppl that said they'll probably come but didn't put money down as an attendee on my guest list. you'll be surprised who will end up coming.
