Poll - For All you Married BDW'ers out there...

Recommended Posts

Hmmm. I didn't vote, cuz I can't really pick. We were in JA for 9 nights, and our family/friends was there for 4 nights, except for one couple there an extra night. I honestly wouldn't change a thing. I am so glad that our families were able to be there with us in the beginning, but I am so glad that Matt and I had time alone at the end.

We arrived on Tuesday with most of the guest. The wedding was on friday. The TA made sure that everyone was gone by Monday. We stayed until Friday. If the guest wanted to stay longer they went ealier. It was very nice to have the last days to out selves. But I loved the time earlier with our guest also. It was a noce balance.

we went for two weeks, just the two of us and our parents. We planned from the begining that we would go for two weeks (first week wedding second week honeymoon). We were going to a small resort (280rooms) that we had been to before and were very excited about it. We just assumed the parents would only go for week one.... So when the parents started planning... his parents decided to go for two weeks as well... *what?*

This was a little awkward, but we just said, if they wanted to go for two that's fine, but they would have to change resorts or go on off setting weeks. (p.s. his parents live across the street from us.. I didn't need them on my honeymoon too)

luckily it worked out, as I booked them at a second hotel for a second week and they were very happy with the 'two vacation' experience...

but having week 2 just for us, was they best... stress is gone, and we were able to just enjoy each other... I recommend alone time if at all possible...

We had 16 guests with us for the first week and about half of that for our second week (including my ILs). I really wish that DH and I had switched resorts or something for the second week but when we decided we wanted to do that, it was already too late. I'm hoping that he and I can spend some alone time together this summer on our vacation (I keep bugging him to take me to Banff or Jasper but it's a tough sell haha) or hopefully next February for our first anniversary. I enjoyed having everyone at the resort with us but by the second week I just wanted to be alone...

We were in Maui for two weeks and most people were staggered in when they left. We ended up having a couple of days at the end for just us which was fine. I wouldn't have changed it at all! I liked having family and friends around for most of the time and the last couple days for us was really all we needed. We've gone on many vacations with just the two of us, plus we lived together before we got married so wasn't as big of a deal in our eyes for alone honeymoon time. Most people respected that anyways :)

Well... I can honestly say we had 43 people with us in Playa for the whole week... it was a rare occasion that my hubby and I had any alone time... We loved having the family and friends with us! It did at times feel very much like a working vacation.... We planned a private honeymoon with the 2 of us later in the year... and by the time we were done with the wedding week we were sooooo excited for the next vacation where it is just us!

We stayed a few extra days after the wedding (we got snowed in so it was out of our hands) but I chose, "Glad we had our family and friends with us during our honeymoon". We are very close to our friends and family and got even closer by having them there with us. We have wonderful memories from our DW.

    • The cooking method can double the calorie content of a meal, so learn about healthy cooking without having to add extra fats, like using a steamer,  a rotisserie , a slow cooker , a pressure cooker, a grill. Once you cook your own meals, you can control the calorie content because your control the cooking method and all the ingredients. A lot of people are overweight because they keep eating food that they did not cook.
    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
    • My sister has done it but with the destination wedding, only super close family members and friends came since it was expensive and farther. It was great though.
