half of registry items only available online ... would you be annoyed?

Recommended Posts

last night tom and i changed a bunch of our registry items (he didn't like the dishes we picked, and since he's the cook, he gets a big say on kitchen items, LOL) and we added a bunch of stuff too. we are registered at target.

the problem is, now it's like almost half the stuff on our registry is only available ONLINE, not in stores. as a shopper, would you find that totally annoying? i'm thinking some people might welcome the chance to shop online, but most people will go to a target store and be pissed that there's not much available in-store.

are we like the most annoying couple ever?

I'd say you might want to get the word out that this is the situation with your registry, so that people don't do what you just described - go to a Target store and find that they have to turn around and go home to place an order. If you have at least half of your items that can be purchased in-store, it isn't all that bad. Is there a way for guests to look at the registry online to figure out what's in the store and what isnt?

Another consideration is shipping costs - some people might want to save on shipping by buying in-store. I would personally see paying the shipping as a convenience, since I could then ask Target to just ship direct to you rather than deal with it myself. BUT, paying extra for shipping might turn a few people off, especially these days when everyone is trying to save money.

At the end of the day, though, I wouldn't worry about it too much, because you have half of your list available in-store. If you find that everything is being bought in-store, though, you might want to tweak the list to adjust it accordingly.

I'm down the middle with this one- On one side, the new generations are accustomed or welcome online shopping

but could I see my aunts or grandma or older family do it? nope.

I would go with lolkitteh and tell guests about the online situation and let them know the convenience of shipping it right to you- that is definetly a plus. Perhaps I would be on the lookout for target to have an online shipping coupon and attach a code with the registry, and sometimes stores even run a promotion that you get shipping free for registry items, so ask about that.

on the other side- I have not done my registry yet (still too early) but are you SO excited for new stuff?!?! :)

If a lot of your friends are our age then they are going to love it because it takes seconds to order rather than ages going into the shop and trying to find stuff. May be a problem for older generation as the others have said.

Just ask them. If they say I would love to get that but can't get online say you'll do it for them lol My aunt does that all the time - i get mostly mine and FI's own stuff and she gives me the cash lol

This is a tricky one. I would definitely get the word out to your friends and family about the online situation. If the majority of your guestlist is younger, than online is okay. However, if they are older, you for sure want to have items that are at the store when they pull your registry. Good luck.

I would say my registry was ALOT like yours. I had Bed Bath & Beyond and Target as my places. Maybe think about finding a second place.. you have "price just right" now maybe a "higher end"(Not that BBB is over priced or anything). I went with that only because my MIL suggested it as the "Old Schoolers" are used to having a more traditional approch to purchases and even items. Like yours, Target has awesome items online and I found way more of the real items I wanted online than in the store. I went on an online shopping spree with Target... then in store got some of the basics... all the kitchen gadgets, towels, and even some camping items to mix it all up. But Target was really online paradise for me. For BBB I actually found alot in the store that I wanted. I was really surprised about this too.

In the end... for my showers (I had 2.. visiting family and then local family and friends) I got ALOT more of BBB compared to Target stuff. I will say I got many many GC's to Target but no actual online items. Don't know if it's because alot of my items were online or not.. but one comment was that I had lots of smaller stuff in store and people wanted to get "real" gifts" -(whatever that means).

Go with what the girls said ... check to see where your age range is for guests and people you know what will want to be at your showers. I think this would def help.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
