Info. on Civil Ceremony (legal) Breakdown in PV

Did a bit of research and thought I would share:

We were just going to do more of a symbolic ceremony in PV and run down to the court house literally right before we leave, but I'm starting to feel that if everyone travels to PV, that it would be more special to have the actual wedding legal there....My FI doesn't want to bother with it down there, but it seems pretty easy, and Dreams takes care of a lot of it I think. The only other thing is my friend said it was pretty expensive....do you have any info on the cost in PV?

I spoke with WC at Dreams, and she mentioned that the overall cost-- bloodwork, paper work, processing fees, etc. totals $350 usd.

 

Rebeca also mentioned that this takes care of everything! The judges "assistant" will pick us up right at the resort, and take us wherever we need to go to get everything finalized during the "four days prior to ceremony date."

yep, that's what my friend told me. It seems pretty easy too & We'll be there four days early already so....

We were going to have our best friend be the "officiant" during the wedding because he can really make the ceremony awesome since he knows both of us so well. I'm assuming the judge would do the legal "stuff" and then I'm wondering if our friend could still say a few things to add etc...

I thought I read somewhere that Dreams would charge extra for that though....which I think would be silly.

Yeah, that would be really silly! That's sooo fun, though, that your friend can help out with the actual ceremony! I'd get in contact with Rebeca and ask her the specifics, she seemed very well informed and I'm sure could clarify the details for you. Let me know how it goes, I'm curious to see how "flexible" they are...

We decided to do the legal thing here in Chicago. I thought it might take away from the big day, but no one really needs to know. It was $35 for the marriage license and it isn't actually official until your officiant signs it and you mail/bring it back to the court house. It just has to be nullified w/in 60 days of applying for the certificate (that's Illinois law...not sure about other states). I just didn't want to have to worry about any of the bloodwork, etc. when we got down there

Thanks Brittany, I like your thinking. It sounds like our marriage license laws sound about the same. I'm thinking we will run down to the courthouse as close as possible to us leaving for PV, not tell anyone, (which will be hard), and just announce it at the ceremony in PV.

No problem! It is really hard not to tell anyone...and we did slip and tell a few people, but I keep reminding myself that it isn't official until the officiant signs it
